“Prominent posterior horn of the lateral ventricle” measuring 15mm.

Has anyone had similar at 38 weeks and it’s been fine when baby is delivered?

I’m terrified.

Hi @NoUsername1001 . Have you just had this diagnosed on a scan? I've just had similar picked up on a regular growth scan (12mm) and I'm awaiting a referral to Fetal Medicine. Have you seen a specialist/what other info have you been given? I too am panicking and making myself worse every time I Google. I have read a lot of positive outcomes though and the mid wife I saw after the scan said often the measurements are wrong - the margins for error are so small as everything is in mm which are tiny....

Yeah, at 38 weeks. Sadly not, think it was too late because I was due to have baby in a few days.
Baby arrived by c-section this morning, I’m currently waiting for neonatal to come and do their checks but I’ll let you know the outcome. No one has seemed concerned so far xx

Congratulations! Great that they aren't concerned. Good luck with the checks, yes, please do let me know the outcome x

Hi,

i was wondering what the outcome was. I hope you and your baby are well?

my 20 week scan showed 10mm posterior ventricles.

Hi,

We’re both well, thank you.

She’s coming up to 5 months old and at 3 days old, she had an ultrasound and blood tests. Then day 4 she had an MRI which was sent off to St George’s for the neurosurgeons and neurologists to review, they couldn’t see a cause for the enlarged ventricle and said that no immediate action was needed.

Since then she’s had 2 ultrasounds that have shown no change and we’ve had to measure her head monthly which is plotting along the chart nicely (albeit on the 99th centile).

She’s doing everything I would expect a 5 month old to do, she’s even keen to be on the move already.

I hope your little ones ventricle doesn’t grow any further, 10mm is on the mild scale I believe. I have read stories of babies going back to normal upon or after birth which is amazing and also in my circumstance, it causing no problems.

I was also told at the time that in London a study was done on lawyers and professions that require all sorts of degrees and some had enlarged ventricles.

(sorry for the long reply!)

Hello!
My first born had one enlarged ventricle at 20 weeks (10.2mm) , we were seen by fetal medicine specialists a few times and then they signed us off because they didn't get any bigger and we were left with he diagnosis it borderline unilateral ventriculomegaly. When he was born no-one was bothered at all and he didn't need any more tests after. He has been a little delayed in some milestones but not crazily so. If we didn't know about the ventricles we'd just assume that was him :)
