Bloody show before elective c section.

Hi all,
Booked in for elective section next week and currently 38w.
Had a bloody show in the early hours and pink spotting when wiping on about 4 occasions (no longer having this). Also woke up feeling wet down there and have had the same sensation down there recently (very slight dampness on pad). I have a horrible chest infection so not sure if it’s incompetence or a sign of waters breaking

Also getting period pains down below and diarrhoea like cramps (where I end up having to run to the toilet. Rang MAU this morning who said to ring back if they get any worse and come in for the c section They weren’t concerned as not lasting long and only every 10 mins at most. Sometimes I’m not getting any pains for over an hour and bleeding has stopped.

Has anyone experienced similar when booked in for elective c section. Or in general, how long after bloody show did you go into labour?

Im clueless regarding what contractions should feel like as had an elective c section with ds1 😅They are feeling quite painful but everyone I ask says I’ll know for sure when I’m having a true contraction due to the level of pain.

Any advice appreciated!

I’d be wanting to go in and check that you’re waters haven’t gone

CousinGreg55 · 29/02/2024 18:08

Sounds like your waters have gone. I has a cs booked for ds2 and my waters broke at 35 weeks, he was born 6 hours later I was prepped to go into theatre to have cs but I got bumped down the list as an emergency came in so no cs for me

I would go in, with my last baby I was in labour for 6 hours before I realised, it isn't horrendous pain all the way through in my experience when I got to the hospital I was 6cm dilated and my waters broke as I got there, go and get checked just incase

Sounds very similar to what I had before my elective c-section, a bloody show and period like pains, and it turned out my waters had gone and DC was born the same day.

When my c-section was booked in I was told that if anything happened before that date I should go in asap for an “emergency” c- section. Didn’t get a c-section in the end as DC was no longer actually breech when I went in but either way I didn’t get as much warning as I expected from bloody show to baby! So do get checked out.

Go in. Your waters might be leaking. Mine did for quite a while before finally going and then flooding everywhere. Fortunately I was in a hospital bed by then so didn't ruin my own mattress.

Depending on the reason for the elective c-section, they might want to bring it forward.

You should probably be monitored for a while. If waters do go early there is a risk of cord compression.

I had a bloody show and my first baby arrived the following day (was 37+5) and it was a fast labour too (8hours start to finish but dilated less than 5) I’d check that it’s not amniotic fluid and get checked out but prepare for labour to happen soon

apossumatthewindow · 29/02/2024 18:43

Hope your ok op but I would get checked just to be on the safe side

Beeloux · 29/02/2024 19:57

Thanks all :)
I had told them about the leaking but they didn’t seem concerned as had asked to monitor for an hour and ring back and I had no more.
Still feeling baby moving but haven’t had any cramps in about 4 hours and no more pink spotting or leaks.
Have a pre op first thing tomorrow at the hospital so not sure to wait until then and monitor situation in meantime.
thanks again xx

I didn’t have a bloody show, but contractions started the day before my C-section, over night. Nothing bad. Just like period pains. Then my waters broke the morning before. Went in and by the time I got there, they were much more intense and closer together.
I'd insist you go in to be checked, if nothing else, to see if your waters have gone.

Just an update. Woke up feeling slightly wet down there so rang my the mau. Came in and although not dilated at all having regular contractions they did a swab during the speculum exam and waters have fully gone (must have happened in my sleep 😳
Just waiting on doctor to hear what’s happening next. Thanks all for your advice!

Good luck.

Beeloux · 01/03/2024 19:11

Thanks both :)
labour progressed very quickly and started bleeding after a vaginal examination so was rushed in for c section.
Ds2 arrived few hours ago with no complications. 😊Thanks so much all again xx

Congratulations!

Go and get checked. You could have problem with sac around baby and might get infection. No harm going in to be assessed, check baby heartbeat etc.

Olika · 01/03/2024 20:41
