Faint line on early pregnancy test

Hi,
Im an older woman and whilst not trying for a baby I’ve felt a little strange for the last week.
Im not in a great situation with work and was due to resign as of today had my plans possibly not been scuppered by my weird feeling I’m pregnant.
Due to the timing work wise I’ve taken an early detection test today and I’m sure I can see a faint line - so now I’m freaking out in all senses with regard to being older and the risks associated and added to that the timing literally couldn’t be worse.
Can you see the line?
Im before my period is due so may have tested way early but… that line..

Usually I have to squint when people post their early pregnancy tests, but that definitely looks like a line to me. Congratulations 🎉

PixieTrance89 · 28/02/2024 09:15

That is positive 🙂

I will say there is a lot of wet under the cap. Flooding the test may give a false positive result, however it does look pretty positive.
Maybe collect a sample in a pot and dip the test when you retest, rather than peeing on it?

FlamingoFloss · 28/02/2024 09:24

I’d say that’s a positive. Hope you are ok

Kiwi23 · 28/02/2024 09:48

Mine was same I’m now 11 weeks

Vicki85 · 28/02/2024 12:03

Ok.. I’m going to do another test tomorrow.

My issue now is where I go job wise.. do I suck up a job I hate for my full maternity package or go to my new job and only get basic maternity assuming I go full term as I’m petrified my age means I might lose it.

Im normally a very rational person- today I’m not!

Mine looked like that 4 days before my period was due. I'm 19 weeks now. Hope you're ok

How old are you? If you stay and take the enhanced package if you were not to go back do you have to pay it back. Also getting a job whilst pregnant is not easy I know there is not meant to be discrimination but I’m sure there is

5YearsLeft · 28/02/2024 12:20

OP, obviously congratulations on the pregnancy, but I’m so sorry about the timing. If there’s any way you can swing the finances with the basic maternity package, I would go to the new job. But also… it’s difficult to predict what will happen at such an early stage, and if your past pregnancies were not complicated, even though you’re older, then perhaps this one won’t be either, and you’ll be working for a very good percentage of the pregnancy. Would either company be more flexible about WFH when you have a young baby? And if you stay with the job you hate, do you think you could still find a job like this one you love at the end of your maternity? All questions to ask yourself.

This would be my 1st baby at 38/ 39yrs old and I’d kind of given up on the idea due to my age and my partner not being bothered on if we did or not.
Hence why im a bit in shock and wondering quite how I tell him tonight once he’s finished work..
I did previously miscarry when I was 27 though.

I have one manager I trust at work so I will call them tomorrow to discuss my options.

You don’t have to pay it back as long as you go back into work dosent have to be the same job

Olika · 28/02/2024 15:38

That's definitely positive. I wouldn't resign but keep the job for now and think about everything.
I kept my job for years while TTC because of my package and I am glad I did as it gave me security while off work. I did return and then resign some months later and it all has works out well.

JRTfan · 28/02/2024 22:40

I wouldn't worry too much about your age. I'm 40 and 23 weeks pregnant (12 years of IVF before we we were successful) I was worried as was put under consultant care due to my age. However everything has gone smoothly and I've had no issues so far. Obviously the miscarriage risk is higher early on but as long as you are fit and healthy then having a baby in late 30s and early 40s is very common.

Vicki85 · 29/02/2024 19:41

Hi,
Just thought I’d update you.
Told my partner who is understandably a bit shocked but Is happy!
Im happy but in a worried way for now but will try and shake that off.
Ivr decided to suck it up in my current place of work for the maternity package and while this makes me miserable I’ve been miserable for 6 months already there so I’m sure I can suck it up now I have a reason to.
I do feel totally overwhelmed where I go next - folic tablets I know and will get some tomorrow.
After that I’m totally whinging it if I’m honest 😂

@XxHev642x
Looks positive to me! I got BFP last week and that's exactly what my line started out like. Good luck xx
