I have a weekly therapy appt and was discussing with DP best thing to do. Said that I could take bubs with me - at first anyway - and he said it was no problem, he could have her, I could feed her just before the appt or she could have some water.

This is not his first child so he takes it in his stride but it never occured to me to give a newborn anything other than breast/formula milk. I felt very thick indeed. Obv water would never replace milk but how much should a baby have, if any?

This is a genuine question. I am realising that I have an awful lot to learn.

It is your experience mymama that your babies were constipated and then they must have been truly rare.

interesting link on constipation and 'exclusively' breastfed babies. There is a specific meaning in medicine for what is 'exclusive breastfeeding'.

That some otherwise exclusively bf babies need water (or prune juice or herbal teas in some countries) is an opinion or folk belief held by many. It would be nice if you can provide evidence from a good scientific study or a referenced article to back up your claim.

we are talking about the health of babies when we discuss feeding issues which is why some people like myself get a bit 'anal' about it to use a more derogatory word.

constipation in the breastfed baby

Totally agree that a breastfed newborn should definitely not need water. Even if he has had kids before he is probably remembering what he did with a much older baby.

How about if DP and baby go with you so you can feed her in the waiting room ie just before you go in to your appointment, then go in on your own so you can concentrate? If he then takes her for a push in pram for an hour she should just sleep the whole time.
