What is this? Often accompanied by lots of movement. Feels like I'm being stabbed in the bladder and really takes my breath away.
It's a first baby btw.

I had this with ds, who was quite big (10 4) when he was born. Like a stabbing pain which takes your breath away - I always thought of it like being poked in the cervix? I was told it was just the baby descending. Dd was much more petite and didnt have quite the same painful sensation.

have you only just started getting sharp pain? It sounds a bit like SPD but if it was I would have expected you to have been getting these pains for a while. It could just be your muscles stretching.

I was told at last scan (32 weeks) that he was head down, so perhaps it's just him trying to engage? Don't they sometimes engage from about 36 weeks the first time?

Only in about the last week and it's right in my bladder/uterus area. Like a needle stabbing me right in the womb. Usually when bump is moving a lot or preceded/followed by lots of movement

Does it get better if you sit down and rest? If not I don't think it can be SPD. Worth mentioning it to midwife next time though.

I get this sometimes too. I just assumed it was the baby's fingers stretching out and down and scratching around . (I'm not very au fait with human biology.) Makes more sense if it's engagement.
What is SPD?

SPD - Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction see here

Ooh sounds exactly like I used to get in the end. It was baby bracing his feet at the "top" of the womb and headbutting my cervix, and it was really very sharp and made me yelp! He did it regularly (and loved standing up from a very early age, actually!) sympathies!

I don't think there's anything you can do about it, but hopefully it should mean he's running out of space and should be trying to escape in the next couple of weeks.

I had this too- figured it was ds bouncing on my pelvic floor. Was worrying for anyone who was with me though as it made me gasp and go "ooh" a bit, everyone thought I was going into labour

Maybe mention to your midwife though just to rule out UTI's?
