Pregnancy symptoms and genders .. being nosey!

Hi there!
I’ve found out I’m pregnant for the second time (currently 5 weeks and 6 days) and am feeling slightly different to my first pregnancy and am just curious to know other people’s experiences and what gender you are expecting/ have had .. I am desperate to find out!
With my first pregnancy with my little boy my first symptoms were extreme hunger and implantation cramps which were much worse than period pains. I then started feeling nauseous around week 7-14, but was never actually sick. Started feeling tired around the time the nausea stopped.
With my current pregnancy my first symptom was sore boobs which I have never experienced before, they are huge this time round already and the left one is bigger than the right! I started having food aversions and the past couple of days I have moments of extreme hunger but don’t really fancy anything. I’m really thirsty all the time and feel nauseous on and off. I’ve been so so tired too, but that could be due to having a toddler now too!

sorry for the essay, just interested to know whether anything is old wife tales or if there is a pattern! X

I never had any noticable symptoms with either of my pregnancies and I've had a boy and a girl.

Wanderingthroughparenthood · 25/02/2024 17:42

My first was a boy I had sickness, extreme tiredness, heightened smell, sore boobs. Utterly miserable, this time I’m 9+3 and have nausea - no sickness, heightened smell & that’s all!

1st- I had sickness in first trimester, loved savoury food, carried low

2nd- no sickness, not many symptoms at all really except early bloating and heartburn towards the end, loads of energy all the way through, carried pretty evenly.

3rd- a lot of nausea, food aversions, strong sense of smell, loved sweet food, carried low, so tired all the way through.

3 very different pregnancies, all 3 are girls. There really isn’t any link between symptoms and the sex of the baby.

People ask these questions all the time but now matter how many people try to convince you, the symptoms don't relate to gender 😂

Ignore the bottom line😂😂😂

I have 2 boys and pregnant with my third. Everything about this pregnancy has been completely different, craving the complete opposite foods. I was convinced it was a girl, not even wishful thinking but I loved the idea of three boys, and it's a boy! So I honestly don't think it means anything. All pregnancies are just different.

DappledThings · 25/02/2024 21:20

I have one of both sexes. Pregnancies were exactly the same.

There's no correlation between symptoms and the sex of the baby.

With DS1 I had the most horrific HG with physical vomiting well over 10x per day. However, after a good vomit I would feel very temporarily better.

Currently pregnant with DD1 and again had horrific HG but it was thr nausea that made it unbearable. I'm now finally in trimester 3 but would often make myself throw up to try and alleviate the absolutely insufferable nausea that dropped me down to 6 stone but alas, it hardly worked at all.

Besides those horror stories, when I did regain my appetite with both around the 25 week mark, I loved savory with my son and am continuing to indulge in anything sweet with my daughter.

Hugs and best wishes!

We now know that female fetuses generally produce more GDF15. This is the hormone that the Cambridge research team together with researchers from the US and Sri Lanka proved is linked to morning sickness.

That said, lots of other factors affect morning sickness too. Like how many pregnancies you’ve had before ie prior exposure to it, your sensitivity and any placental abnormalities causing too much GDF15 production which is apparently really common. But generally girl babies are a little bit more likely to cause more sickness and this is now science backed!

I'm 17 weeks pregnant with my first.
Had zero symptoms so far, I'm having a girl

Scalby · 25/02/2024 22:02

Three identical pregnancies and labouers...B,B,G.

Kinsters · 26/02/2024 03:45

I was more nauseous with my girl than my boys. With my boys I wasn't sick at all in the first trimester, with my girl I was sick a few times but nothing too bad so it is as only a small difference.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 26/02/2024 04:19

I had very bad morning sickness with my girls but less sickness with my son.

HeyDuggity · 26/02/2024 07:11

One of each sex. Two identical pregnancies.

Justwrong68 · 26/02/2024 08:13

Gender? 😂 don't you mean sex?

IDidntWearASmileToday · 26/02/2024 08:38

Pregnancy with DD12 I was extremely sick all the way through.

20 weeks currently and have had a little sickness, first symptom was heartburn, been very very very tired (is it because I'm 13 years older this time? Grin) tender boobs, and super emotional. Another girl!

MotherofAllMatriarchs · 27/02/2024 21:54

Your experience is what the Cambridge Uni research team might expect @IDidntWearASmileToday Nausea reducing in severity through prior exposure to GDF15 so an easier time with second baby!

MotherofAllMatriarchs · 27/02/2024 21:56

ps @IDidntWearASmileToday have you tried Omezeprole for the heartburn if you still have it? I wish I’d had it for my first pregnancy. It’s brilliant and free through your GP. Hope you feel better soon anyway!
