Got referred for a growth scan at 36+4 because midwife measured & thought baby has decreased in size. Found out baby has definitely NOT decreased & all measurements on 90th percentile but still in normal range & estimated weight now is 7lbs 5oz, sonographer said I don’t need to do anything until next midwife apt at 38+4 where she’ll measure me again I’m sure… wondering what will happen if she measures me and it shows I’m definitely gonna have a big baby. Will I need to be induced pretty soon after bearing in mind I won’t be seen now till I’m almost 39 weeks anyway?!

Hi OP, I was in the exact same situation. Midwife measured me small, panic, baby not growing, must induce because baby not growing. Ultraround - baby js definitely growing and baby too big, talk with a consultant about difficult births, dislocated shoulders, birth injuries, recommended C-section early because baby definitely too big. It causes me a lot of worry but I decided to let it go to term and attempt vaginal delivery. Lots of tutting and worrying.

Anyway, the baby came out the usual way, very easily, and was a perfectly normal size. Not too small. Not too big.

What I’m saying is, ultrasounds are not 100% accurate, midwives with tape measures are guesswork at best.

Your baby is a very normal size. Above the 97th centile would be considered 'large for gestational age' and even then, the vast majority of those babies are born without issue. If your midwife has concerns about the growth at your next appointment you will be offered another scan. Best of luck with everything
