Hi all! I joined yesterday, I have a bmi of around 38 I think. Obviously aren't looking for weight loss hugely, but hoping to get a bit healthier and move a bit more and hopefully not be a knackered old wreck when baby comes 🤣 Anyone else?

I thought they weren’t allowed to accept your membership if you’re pregnant? Personally I think Slimming World is awful and their goal and the goal they impose on you is that to be successful in your SW journey you have to lose weight. I signed up before my wedding and lost some weight but I wouldn’t say it was healthy or sensible. I lost the most weight (and kept it off) doing it by myself and not touching bloody quark or counting ‘syns’.

How many weeks along are you?

You'll also need to ensure that any of their recipes you cook are pregnancy safe.

Ive lost weight in both my pregnancies, nothing dramatic but lost a few kgs. My advice is to ditch the membership and try and keep active where you can. Pick it back up after the baby is born if you really want to go.

They're definitely allowed to accept your membership, it's approved by the royal college of midwives. It's a slightly different plan when pregnant and breastfeeding and you get more cheese / milk.
Of course you can make their food, it's just low fat meals, lean meats, plenty of veg.

OffToBedforshire · 25/02/2024 07:26

It's basically a very low fat diet. I think a bit of fat in your diet (especially good fats) is really good for your growing baby. And also the other nutrients than come with some fatty food - like calcium.
If I were you I would just eat really healthily and avoid junk food and loads of carbs while your pregnant.

Wedontopenyet · 25/02/2024 07:31

You get 2 'healthy extra A choices' - so that's 2 portions of cheese /milk. You can have whole milk etc.
And 2 healthy extra Bs, that's extra fibre.
Personally I think it's a good idea if you've a BMI of 38 and want to maintain that or even slightly reduce it while pregnant. You could speak to your midwife about it too.

Marchbug · 25/02/2024 07:34

Yes it's approved by the RCM, and signed off by your own mw.

Yes, will absolutely be eating healthy fats such as avocados, full fat cheese, nuts etc as also think this is very important :) Unfortunately, I've been feeling very grim and have been eating a lot of ,well, absolute garbage! So changing to the plan will definitely be an improvement.

I'm very aware of how the plan can be misinterpreted, and of negative diet culture, but feel well equipped and with enough knowledge of this to use it as a tool to encourage me to make healthier choices and feel it's the right thing for me atm.

Was mainly looking for others in a similar position.

Will absolutely not be using lots of 'diet' products and sugar free this and that. I left any recipes involving a tub of sweetener, a muller light and quark long ago 🤣🤣

Yes, this is definitely my idea. I read the pregnancy booklet yesterday and the guidance on weight loss is really sensible, obviously they know you may lose some initially due to changes in habits but it's very closely monitored and liaising with your mw is part of the plan, I'm feeling so much better and more positive after going!

Just remember they don’t support weight loss while pregnant but more just eating healthier and staying active so don’t get too discouraged if you don’t lose weight

Be quite happy with just a change in habits and feeling a bit less sluggish, am probably hitting the point that I won't lose now as baby will be growing a lot, so am ok with that! Even a maintain would feel like an achievement
