Hi all - am 5 weeks today with baby number 1, and just wondered if anyone else was around the same boat and fancied joining and sharing their experiences and / or a metaphorical hand hold!

Hey hun, if you search when you are due I.e Due December 2024
There is usually a massive post for all months so all women due around same time can chat together. For example I’m on one Due July 2024 x

Blossomofhope · 22/02/2024 19:46

hi there @hopingforapeainapod
Im 6 weeks + 3 days, first time. How are you feeling? Do you have a scan booked in?

hopingforapeainapod · 22/02/2024 20:41

@AimeeLou84 I am actually on an October 2024 babies thread but there are quite a few people on there who are further along than me so just looking to see if anyone is in exactly the same boat! There’s also lots of comments already so it’s hard to keep up😂

@Blossomofhope yes I have a scan booked in 2 weeks today, so when I will be 7 weeks! 🤞 having loads of symptoms already but I am on progesterone so it’s hard to tell what is caused by that and what is caused by pregnancy! I am absolutely exhausted, and then got all the classics - sore boobs, increased hunger, bloating in the evening, hot flashes, etc! I can’t believe some women don’t know until they are 6 weeks plus! How are you getting on?

OP posts:
Blossomofhope · 23/02/2024 17:35

@hopingforapeainapod Im exactly the same as you - tired, hunger, sore boobs and hot flashes the odd time but I’m not sick or anything - yet! I’m sure it’s probably coming.
I both can’t wait for the scan and am terrified of it - I keep thinking it’s all about to end which I know is unhealthy!

MrsGreen2021 · 23/02/2024 19:20

Waving and saying hello!
I had an early scan today to rule out an ectopic and it showed gestational sac and yolk sac. By my dates, I’m 5 weeks today but the sonographer thinks maybe a couple of days further on.

This is baby number 2 for us. Our little boy is 16 months and is our pride and joy after a traumatic miscarriage at 12 weeks in 2021.

Symptom wise, I feel different to last time which is strange! Nausea is off the scale and seems to hit me worst at around 6pm. I’m also exhausted so have starting having a nap in the afternoons!

I found the October 24 group so busy, I couldn’t keep up!

Will look forward to sharing the journey with you and congratulations!

IsLarryFromSomething · 23/02/2024 21:07

I'm 5 weeks today 🙂 It's my first baby and I don't have as many symptoms as you although I definitely feel different (tired, bloated, nauseous and I have to pee more already).

GiantRoadPuzzle · 23/02/2024 21:11

I’m 4 weeks and on the October thread but pretty sure I’ll jump onto a November thread as my due date is on the cusp.

Only found out on Wednesday so very new and very weird. It’s my second but just as scary. Very much got the uncomfortable pulling sensation.

ChyLL · 23/02/2024 21:24

Hi, I should be 5+1 today but I’m being VERY as I’ve stupidly done clear blue weeks indicator tests and they put me at 3-4 weeks pregnant.. I know my exact ovulation date so im quite anxious. I have an early scan in a couple of weeks.

I unfortunately suffered a loss in 2020 but since then I’ve had a wonderful little boy who is 2.5 years old ♥️

NimbleSloth · 23/02/2024 21:29

Hey all,

Also 5 weeks with my first. Only symptom so far had been headaches. But this might also be because I stare a screen all day and have now drastically reduced my caffeine 🤣

When did you all find out? I found out at 3 weeks-ish because I had enormously swollen boobs and spotting (both very abnormal for me). Was very surprised to see a postive test though and sat staring at it for about 20 minutes.

hopingforapeainapod · 23/02/2024 22:57

Hi all, nice to have lots of ladies in the same boat!

@NimbleSloth I found out about 10dpo, so pretty early. It’s a bit of a long story but we had been trying for over a year and were told we were ‘unexplained’ and just to keep trying and then come back when we were ready for IVF (!) so I then found another doctor because I wanted a second opinion and she gave me a monitored cycle so I had a bunch of scans and then I had a HCG injection to trigger ovulation and then have been on progesterone since 1DPO - and boom, first bfp in 15 months! I was testing out the trigger and it was fully gone by 9DPO and then I got a vvvvv faint line on 10DPO so got my hopes up and the line got darker each day but couldn’t confirm with the clinic until 16DPO - anyway I am now 20DPO but already feels like I have known for forever 😂

@ChyLL I’m sorry the Clear Blue digital has made you anxious, I have heard they are notoriously unreliable though! Could you go for a blood test to double check your HCG? I went for one yesterday and found it really reassuring.

@MrsGreen2021 yes I am definitely feeling worse in the afternoons / as the day goes on! My sleep has been a bit weird this week so I weirdly keep getting up very early (which is unusual for me!) and actually feeling pretty good / energetic in the mornings, but then after lunch the fatigue hits me like a train!

I’m also wondering how everyone is finding keeping it a secret?! I went out for dinner and drinks tonight with colleagues and I don’t know I felt really weird about lying about why I wasn’t drinking, why I was leaving / going home early (so tired!), etc. I‘ve also got a hen do bottomless brunch in two weekends which I’m already slightly dreading, and I’m seeing two of my best friends next weekend and part of me really wants to tell them and it will feel so weird if I don’t but then I also really don’t want to jinx anything…

OP posts:
ChyLL · 24/02/2024 09:06

@hopingforapeainapod I have looked into it but where I would have to do it privately it would
cost £300 🥴. Im going to try and not test anymore and just wait for my early scan in a coud
of of weeks.

Ive had fertility treatment so a couple of my friends know which is nice as it’s nice to have them to turn too.

hopingforapeainapod · 24/02/2024 10:11

@ChyLL that seems crazily expensive! My clinic did a progesterone and HCG blood test this week for £50! I’m glad you have got people you can turn to in this anxious time though x

I had to tell my car share because I got in the car holding a bag to throw up in 🤣 I'll have to tell my boss soon because I'll have to put a reason for the absence request form for the midwife appointment. Last night I went to the cinema with some friends and forgot about caffeine for a moment so changed my mind from a coke to a lemonade and thought maybe they would figure it out, but one asked me if this is because of the tests I had done a couple of weeks ago for fertility so that gave me an easy out as I said the doctor recommended it!

ChyLL · 24/02/2024 11:12

@hopingforapeainapod thats an amazing price!! I was told I would need two blood tests and they are £150 each!! I know it’s a business but it does sadden me that it’s such a money making thing when people are so desperate and will pay anything at times.

hopingforapeainapod · 24/02/2024 17:15

@IsLarryFromSomething ah no, has the nausea already hit you badly then?! Luckily I haven’t got any nausea (yet) but I’m a secondary school teacher so I think if / when it hits I will probably need to tell work too! It’s such a minefield remembering all the things you can / can’t have - I was frantically googling in the supermarket today can you eat feta when pregnant 😂

@ChyLL I’m not sure whether it’s discounted for me because I’ve had earlier treatment with them or not but I completely agree that way too many clinics inflate their prices unnecessarily because they know people will fork out in desperation! Hopefully your scan will come around quickly 🤞

IsLarryFromSomething · 24/02/2024 18:04

Oh hey I am also a teacher! But primary 😊

GiantRoadPuzzle · 25/02/2024 15:36

Nausea has really hit me today, I’m actually quite worried for work tomorrow.

Last pregnancy was during lockdown so was able to wfh and lie down a lot, also had zero morning sickness but a little nausea around 9-10 weeks.

Not even 5 weeks and this is really throwing me!

hopingforapeainapod · 25/02/2024 18:01

@IsLarryFromSomething ah hey fellow teacher! How are you finding teaching and early pregnancy so far? Last week was my first week back after half term and I found it absolutely knackering!

@GiantRoadPuzzle ah bless you - I have heard that each pregnancy can be very different - tbh I felt quite nauseous when I first found out and I wondered if it might be just the anxiety of it all at the very beginning! Hopefully it will pass 🙏

OP posts:
IsLarryFromSomething · 25/02/2024 22:47

@hopingforapeainapod it isn't too bad, I have been nauseous but not been sick at school so it's not got in the way of work yet. I am really exhausted, I have to take a nap at home after school haha. I think I'm going to tell work soon as I would like the pregnancy risk assessment to apply to me. Also, my school asks what kind of appointment you request off for and my booking appointment is during term time so I'll need to tell them anyway. Does your school do that?

There are at least 3 of us at my school having our first babies! The timing of mine is perfect because I think I'll make it to October half term and then can start mat leave when the baby comes, and then come back at the end of July for a few days and have full pay for the summer holiday. Are you doing a similar thing?

hopingforapeainapod · 26/02/2024 11:30

@IsLarryFromSomething I’ve been so exhausted too! I literally have had a nap most days after school. I have a lot of Parents Evenings and other things on in the evenings this half term which I am somewhat dreading - had an 8 period day last Thursday and then Parents Evening until 8.30pm and I felt absolutely wiped afterwards! I am quite lucky in that my school are very good and don’t ask any specifics about medical appointments or anything and my midwife appointment isn’t until I’m 10 weeks so will be during the Easter holidays. I wonder if my school are getting suspicious though because I have had quite a few appointments recently - firstly for fertility investigations, then fertility treatment, then I had a blood test last week and got my scan next week! So I’m sure they will start asking questions soon.

I also haven’t really thought about maternity leave at all yet but you’re right - I guess I will try and work up until half term, and then come back right at the end of the summer term so can have the holidays paid! Hopefully there’s no reason why we can’t do that?! Maternity pay as a teacher is so rubbish. I have loads of friends who work for private companies who get really good deals - one of my best friends is pregnant and due in April and she gets 6 months full pay! So I think we definitely need to take whatever we can get…

@hopingforapeainapod I double checked with my clinic today and it’s £100 for 2!! (No idea what the First Lady was looking at) So I’ve booked them up and by Friday I’ll know if it’s good or bad news. I feel sick with worry and I’m so so anxious all day, everyday.

I’ve not done a weeks indicator test since last Thursday and I’ve just done a cheap my strip test (from Amazon).. I feel it’s so light but I’ll do the next one in the morning.

Hope you’re ok ♥️

hopingforapeainapod · 26/02/2024 18:21

@ChyLL ah that’s great news! I realised with my clinic it was actually £50 each (so £50 for progesterone and £50 for HCG) so £100 total so now in line with yours!

I’m sorry you’re feeling so anxious. It’s so hard isn’t it - I’ve wanted to be pregnant for so long and you always imagine it will be this big celebration like it is in the movies but instead it’s just constant worry and having to tell yourself not to get too excited! How light was it? I think test again as one test could be down to so many things (eg diluted urine) etc. I’ve also heard of something called the ‘hook effect’ - I don’t quite understand how it works, but basically it’s when HCG levels become so high that it oversaturates the test and the detection mechanism doesn’t work anymore so you get very light positives. Could it possibly be that?

OP posts:
ChyLL · 26/02/2024 18:31

@hopingforapeainapod

I know exactly what you mean.. with my first pregnancy I was so happy and care free and then I had a missed miscarriage which changed everything. I was very anxious with my son who is 2.5 years now but this is a different level!

I’ll post a few… today’s one was very light but I think I’ll do another one as I’ve nothing to compare it to as it’s a new box of cheap ones from Amazon.

(The light blue cheap one was from today- about 4:30 this afternoon)

@ChyLL hmmm it’s strange cause the clear blue looks good but the cheapie strips do look pretty faint - the control line also looks very faint though so I wonder if you could just have a dodgy batch?! Hopefully you get some answers soon xx
