The more children you've had / closer together they are ?

Defo closer together came in very fast (only stopped breastfeeding first when pregnant, milk came in within 24 hours of birth of second). Third child, 5 year age gap, took 2 days. 1st baby was 3-4 days although came in slowly so difficult to tell. With 2nd/3rd children I just didn't expect sleep nights 2/3/4 and cluster fed all night to set up breastfeeding and napped in the day whilst hubby was on pat leave. I fed, ate and drank only those days as knew it was short-term.

Thanks I think it took 4 days with my first but I'd had emc which I know means it can take longer then I had number 2 15 months later and tandem fed them both so milk was already 'in' if you like.
Pregnant with number 3 and no longer feeding sadly but hoping for another smooth journey may be having an elective so just worried I'll forget what to do / to ensure baby is getting enough etc

You could colostrum Harvest so that younhsve a stash for a while. Plan to do it I an expecting my 2nd in July. I stopped nursing last july so a whole year. I feel like I have forgotten.

@MixedCouple me too, but I reckon it's like riding a bike you never forget , 🤞

I think it does come in quicker the more children you have. My midwife told me this as well.

The best thing you can do to encourage milk to come in is to have as much skin to skin as possible during the first 3 hours after your child is born. I had my baby skin to skin whilst still on the operating table for my c-section. If this is an option in your hospital I would do it!

Your body also grows more milk producing tissue with each subsequent pregnancy

@hellobaby27 @KnittingKnewbie so interesting
I may go for elective this time if so I'll hopefully be actually awake and with it to meet my baby for the first time and able to hold for skin to skin x

Four years between my two.

Took 10 days with my first due to a 3L PPH and retained placenta.

With my second, she was an elective caesarean, milk in day 2 but felt beginnings of let downs when she was about 8hrs old.

The female woman human body is incredible.

They do say your boobs lay in a 'dormant state' after your first child.

return2sender · 22/02/2024 09:07

Oh and we had immediate skin to skin with my second, she fed for about 2hrs as soon as she was plonked on me. It was magical.

Spookymormonhelldream · 22/02/2024 10:34

Mine came in after 24 hours with DC2, ELCS. Midwife couldn't believe how fast and how much! So proud of my norks 😁

mrssunshinexxx · 22/02/2024 10:36

Wow @return2sender sounds like a rough birth first time did you have to give formula initially

OP posts:
return2sender · 22/02/2024 10:44

@mrssunshinexxx no, he wouldn't take a bottle. And the time we tried with formula he promptly projectile vomited it up. Turns out he had CMPA.

Miraculously he only lost 10% so we didn't end up being readmitted. He was a few weeks regain his BW but then had a tongue tie snipped and piled it on, literally a LB a week for a few weeks 😂😂

Clarebelle878 · 22/02/2024 10:47

I harvested colostrum with my second. Milk came in within 48 hours and in plentiful amounts. Much more than with my first.

Not for me.
