Contractions at 32 weeks, can they be stopped ?

I've had a "stomach bug" for nearly 3 weeks now, today the stomach pain and diarrhoea was that bad I thought I best call triage. They told me to come in.

Put me on the monitor and I'm having contractions (tightenings) every few minutes. I thought it was just my upset stomach

They've put me in fluids, anti sickness and pain relief as well as some anti biotics and they are hoping that will settle the contractions

What's the chances of these stopping? The tightenings aren't that painful but I do remember with my first that this is how it started

They said they can possibly give me something to stop labour and also some steroids for baby's lungs

Anyone's experience would be very helpful, currently in hospital not knowing what to think!

I had episodes of prodromal labour like this starting at 31 weeks. My first baby came at 36 weeks after a similar episode…

I’m currently 38+1 :) so there is hope of it stopping. I was given some anti spasm medication and put on bed rest until 36 weeks. I won’t pretend that it wasn’t enormously frustrating but I’m glad not to have had a second pre term delivery.

I had contractions at 18w initiated by an ill-advised intervention for something else but didn’t have the baby until 36w. i was in hospital for some time and had a lot of neighbours who came in in pre-term labour and didn’t continue to birth. You’re in hospital so already in the best place. Best of luck.

I had this after an abruption at 29 weeks - luckily just stopped spontaneously rather than developing into full labour (because I also had undiagnosed vasa praevia, and DS would have died if I’d delivered him vaginally).

Ended up having ELCS at 36 weeks (for the vasa praevia) - no other contractions after that first night.

Interesting, I also had undiagnosed vasa previa, was diagnosed a few weeks later, and also never had contractions again before section at 36w.
