as title says ftm due mid June im really stressing on all these things to get but I feel like I need to start buying/ seriously looking on what to get
I think im going to start on bed/ prams
are these two ok from newborn? especially the bed? seems cheap but im not on a huge budget here lol

https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/baby/pushchairs-and-strollers/travel-systems/panorama-xt-by-babylo-2-in-1-travel-system-and-car-seat-grey/p/216270

first this pram, seems cheap comes with lay down part for newborn and the sit up part and car seat! anyone had this and its all ok?

https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/baby/cots-cribs-and-bedding/cot-beds-and-bedside-cribs/bedside-cribs/babylo-you-and-me-crib/p/216878

was also looking at this bed to go next to me, is this with a mattress?
has anyone had this and recommends ? its ok from newborn to 6 months it says when did your baby grow out of this?

also I feel bit stupid, do you just buy newborn bed mattress covers? for the bed and change every few days
im so worried about safety and having a safe sleep space so would this be ok or should I spend more on sleeping arrangements

Pardon Our Interruption

This car seat isn’t a recommended one - id recommend joining Car seat safety UK Facebook groups for car seat recommendations - I wish I’d looked on there before buying!
Not sure on that crib as I’ve got a Moses basket but I’m sure someone else will advise.

They can sell them as they meet the UK minimum safety test requirements but it apparently doesn’t mean it’s a good seat - if you join the group and have a read through a few posts you will see! I’ve also realised from that group that as your newborn can’t be in the seat for more than 30mins at a time then it’s not really necessary to get a travel system - you could purchase a better seat then maybe get a decent pram second hand on market place?

I am also a FTM due in June so I’m in the same boat so not the best person to recommend prams et c!

@redddssak Try not to get yourself stressed out over it. Babies need a lot less than you think 😊

Firstly, you’ve not said what your budget is but have said it’s not huge so I’ll base things roughly on the price of the suggestions you’ve posted. Secondly, babies don’t need everything brand new 😊 I highly suggest looking at second hand things! You’ll be able to get far better quality items for a fraction of the price.

For a bed we used a Snuzpod. They are wooden with fabric sides that can be completely removed to wash them so great for buying second hand as you can give it all a good clean over for your baby 😊 There are loads for sale on Facebook Marketplace near me for £15/20! You should always use a new mattress for your baby but you can buy the proper mattress brand new online for £30 😊

People are always getting rid of prams. You can easily pick up a really decent quality pram for £100/200 if you keep an eye out online etc. Again, you’ll be able to get a new mattress for the bassinet part online 😊

The one thing I wouldn’t buy secondhand or try to buy cheap is the car seat. Car seats are tested to all different levels. Unfortunately, to be sold in the UK they only need to pass the very bare minimum safety tests. I’m definitely not a car seat expert but if you search “infant carrier” on the Facebook group that’s been suggested already you’ll be able to get a list of recommended newborn seats 😊

Echo the PP, if you're on a budget look on Marketplace for everything except mattresses and car seat.

We bought a Next to Me for £40 including a load of sheets and night light (we bought a new mattress separately) and a Stokke Trailz pushchair including the bassinet for £100.

I would advise going somewhere where you can try out a few prams. Thinking about how easy it is to fold and unfold and does it fit in your boot etc. Then once you've decided look online for a second hand one of budget is tight. There's always loads of prams for sale.

I have an Oyster3 and love it. It's 5 years old now and still going strong with second DS. We also used the carrycot on the floor in the living room in the day so didn't buy a Moses basket. The other additional benefit was that when in seat mode the frame and the seat triple fold together making it easy and compact for a travel system. You can the get adapters for maxi cosi car seats etc.

Car seat wise again a minefield. I used a maxi cosi cabriofix until he was 6 months and then it was just too heavy so switched to a cybex I Siriona spin which again we had for DS1 and is a great car seat.

Cot wise I had a next to me cot which can be a stand alone cot or attached inside of bed for easy access night feeds etc. you can buy this second hand and buy a new mattress separately. There's loads in Facebook marketplace.

Also sheet wise amazing do them in all the different sizes you need.

Additionally I would also recommend using sleeping bags for safe sleeping provided baby is the right weight and size for them. Again they can be bought in different sizes

My biggest top tip would be a white noise machine. Invaluable for me. I use the marpac hush for both my kids still

Alwaystired2023 · 20/02/2024 21:41

Agree with the second hand comments - I did buy a lot second hand but wish I had bought more especially the really expensive pram etc !! You can always buy a brand new mattress for the bassinet (same for cots / moses basket / next to me)

Also agree that you don't need lots, I had a pram, a bouncer, a baby bath and a next to me when baby arrived and everything else I got after they came (usually ordered at 3am 🤣)

Silverfoxlady · 21/02/2024 20:26

The minimum for me would be a cotbed (any cotbed that has adjustable height and a side that can be removed so it can be pushed closed to the bed), a sling (for 3 months), a change mat and a car seat. Eventually a push-chair is needed (3/4 months).

Anything else is optional for me as breastfeeding (fingers crossed).

StartedWithACrisp · 21/02/2024 20:37

I'd buy the best I could with my budget for items like pram/cot/car seat as they are ultimately the safety items for the baby, and go super cheap on anything else especially baby clothes and not buy the 'nice to haves' like silly nappy bins/wipe warmers that are unnecessary.

Katherina198819 · 21/02/2024 21:27

I think what you buy really depends on how your house/flat is.
We have a big house, so I had 3 diaper changing station set up, 3 beds (one next to me cot, one in the nursery, and one small cot in the living room).
If you have a smaller space, you will definitely need less.

For a next to me cot, we used Tutti Bambini coZee, which I won't recommend. You can get a much better or the same one for cheaper.

People say babies don't need load, which is true. But you do if you want to keep sane.
I had plenty of Muslims, blankets, breastfeeding pillows, etc. lying around the house and in the ca, so I never had to spend time searching or carrying them with me all the time.

You can always buy things used (except mattress which you usually have to order as an extra - they don't come with the cots, next to me bed etc.)

What I would definitely recommend is to have a baby bouncer (small ones are the best as you can carry them around your home) and a baby carrier so you can have the baby on you - as a first time mother I didn't know that I won't be able to put down my newborn- so these things were life saver to me.
