Stupid pregnancy test at 9 weeks

For some mad reason I decided to take a pregnancy test on Sat (I should be 9+1) and it was fainter than the one I took at 6 weeks. I took another today (9+3) and it's even fainter. I'm now in a major panic as I've previously had a mmc. Any thoughts/experiences?

Is it the same brand of test and did you do the tests the same time of day??? (early morning is best - first wee of the day)

The only way to be sure you are still pregnant is to reqeust an hcg level blood test - your local hospital EPU should do it for you if you ring and explain.

Good luck.

stop taking tests if you've already had a positive one! there is no point at worrying and you're adding to your anxiety

have you been to the dr yet? if you've previously had a mmc the epu can be scanning you earlier than normal to give you some reassurance

I used to do lots of test when I was pregnant with DD - because I was paranoid about a MMC (I had one previously and subsequently to having her too so I had good reason). If you have drunk a lot of water the result will be fainter, if you have used a cheaper test, again, fainter.

Past about eight weeks, it's unlikely you would miscarry and not get some bleeding. I know that probably doesn't sound very helpful but actually the fact that you are not cramping and bleeding is brilliant, despite the fainter tests.

If you are really worried, go to the EPU and ask them to scan you or do a blood test. By your point in pregnancy they should be able to pick up a fetal heartbeat as well (you know the risk of miscarriage really decreases once the heartbeat has been heard?)

Good luck to you

I've read that HCG reaches peak between 7 and 10 weeks so is possible that its peaked and is now dropping, but agree with everyone else that best thing is to get early scan for reassurance. Good luck.

I did the same thing a few weeks ago! I had a panic as didnt see much on the pee stick. I have just had to go out and buy new bras, up from 36B to 38D. Shocking.

Please don't panic. I did exactly the same at 9 weeks (am now 12 weeks). I didn't have many pg symptoms and so foolishly did a test which showed a very faint line. I nearly gave myself a heart attack and was convinced all was not well. Spoke to the midwife who said that hcg levels drop around this time and so that could be the reason for the faint result. Tbh I was so stressed I ended up booking in for a private scan and it was the best money I ever spent. Baby was fine. I'm sure that it will be the same for you too. I don't know why we do this to ourselves! I wish this thread had been going the day I did my 9 week test! Hope this helps to ease your mind.

Just wondering if you are entitled to an early scan in your area. In Edinburgh at the EPU if you have had a previous mc they will scan you at approx 8 weeks, well, they have for me anyway. You could always check and that would put your mind at rest.

After some internet research I found that when hcg levels are really high they can interfere with the test. I've got loads of cheap internet tests so I decided to test this out. I did a few dilutions of my sample and the test always looked pretty much the same. Even after a massive dilution (more than about 1/1000) it was still positive. I know you're thinking I'm insane, but I am reassured that I still do have massive amounts of hcg.

I actually had a scan at 7 weeks and all was well. This was done because I've also had a previous ep so they wanted to check where the baby was. The problem is that in my 1st pregnancy I had a scan at 7 weeks and then at 12 weeks they said the baby had died shortly after the 7 week scan. I am so scared of history repeating itself. As the days tick by I get more and more paranoid.

Glad that you are feeling reassured Jess. Thankfully I've never suffered from ep or any such but this pg took so long to happen (tubal and ovarian damage after c-section with ds) that it has made me paranoid too. Try and put the worries out of your mind (difficult I know) and look forward to 12 weeks, you haven't long now. Good luck
