Antenatal classes

Hi,
I'm very new to this platform 🙂and I really hope to get an answer to my question.

I'm 18 weeks pregnant, hoping to sign up to antenatal classes soon.
I find it slightly confusing or perhaps too much choices online.

Ladies, do you think it is worth paying for NCT (£269 for course package)? Or just go through NHS (I heard NHS classes aren't great). I live in Plymouth.

Many thanks in advance 😀

Lia

I guess the question I would ask is what you want out of the course?

NHS courses aren't run where I am so gone for NCT after making sure it delivered what myself and husband wanted.

I did Bump and Baby, which was a little cheaper than NCT. However I would have done NCT if I couldn't have found anything cheaper.

I'd recommend doing a group like this, not for the information (which is easily found online or in books) but for the connections. I don't have loads of family and friends with young children, so it was great for me to have a WhatsApp group of moms I could chat to, all going through the same thing. We met up a lot for walks and lunches in the early days.

I know not everyone has this experience, but I it really was worth it for me.

Thank you @Toda11 and @neleh87 .
I just checked for Bump and Baby. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that they are running in person courses in Plymouth or nearby.

bump academy do free and paid ones

I don't have a comparison I'm afraid.
I've been attending nhs classes .
And while I feel there's no real social interaction between the ladies and its quite basic, we're reading of what I can only describe as a childs board. we're hudled up into a small room but the one thing I do enjoy is its with the same team of midwifes I'm dealing with on a regular basis at appointments

Firsttimebabymama · 20/02/2024 13:30

I've gone for NHS and start them end of March.
I'm 30 weeks pregnant now so starting them late (earlier ones were full) but it's better than nothing.
If you can afford them, I'd maybe book your own though.

I've found NCT class very comprehensive and useful in terms of the information, but even more importantly in meeting some local mum's having their babies at the same time. It's been great to have the support from them.

Thank you @LavenderSweetPea ! After carefully looking at other options today, I decided to go with NCT regardless of the cost. Thank you for your reply. ♥️
