I was reading their new catalogue in the bath last night and I saw that they now have sterile maternity pads, that they say are necessary for women who have stitches. They cost 50p each!!!!
Do they think that I sterilise my bath water/my witchhazel pads/my knickers? It's such a blantant ploy to grasp more money from women who are not feeling at their best. I bled for 6 weeks, I would have spent a fortune.
I suppose that's their business model, isn't it? Take women (and men) at their most vunerable and emotionally blackmail them into buying things they don't need. Even so....

Yes, once you see they are available you think eek! I need them - I've got stitches!

Forgetting that millions of women have NOT had them and lived to tell the tale

I'm sure that the ones they give you in hospital aren't sterilised? Isn't the idea that you're meant to keep clean and change them often anyway?

babylove21 · 23/03/2008 18:11

yes, i think mat pads are less absorbent so the mw can see whats coming away.

I had my 3rd baby in December and I bought a couple of packs of maternity pads from Mothercare.

I remember laughing at the packaging as it says "24 pads needed in the first 24 hours"

What????!!!!!

I think not Mothercare.

...wow they REALLY want your money.
But some people MUST actually believe this!

MrsTittleMouse · 23/03/2008 18:16

That's the trouble isn't it? I'm sure that if I was wearing pads that cost 50p each I would have been far more reluctant to change them constantly, which is far more important.
Ranks up there with the baby wipe-warmer IMO.

What on earth is a baby wipe warmer? How did I ever manage without one?

MrsTittleMouse · 23/03/2008 18:35

It's a little gizmo a bit like a bottle warmer that you put your packet of wipes into. It warms them up so that your precious baby doesn't have the shock of room temperature wipes on their little bottom. According to the manufacturer, a warm wipe also opens the pores and prevents nappy rash.

Haven't brought a thing from mothercare! Found excatly the same thing cheeper either at babies r us or Boots (for the bits i needed) and my sister swears by tesco's own brand breast pads so gonna give them a try when that bit comes around. Think they just trade off their name, they don't sell anything you can't get cheeper elsewhere!
