Window to the womb private scan

I've got a scan booked for tomorrow as my NHS scan isn't until the 7th of March and I'd like to know dates. I've been on the pill and so haven't had a period for years, I have no idea how far along I am.

I'm just curious what to expect tomorrow. How accurate are their due date predictions? What information is on the early pregnancy obstetric report?

I really don't want the transvaginal scan. I've had symptoms since around Christmas but didn't test until the 19th January (honestly didn't imagine I'd be pregnant!). So I'm thinking I'm over 10 weeks but it's a bit of a guessing game. Will the normal ultrasound get good enough pictures for dating if I'm around 10 weeks?

Thanks for any information!! 💜

We had a Window to the Womb scan at 9 weeks. Their date estimation was only 1 or 2 days different to our NHS scan. Limited information on the report, just confirmed and dated the pregnancy and commented on ovaries.

They recommended transvaginal to us if less than 10 weeks - you could always go for abdominal and then switch if they're not able to get images? I didn't find it uncomfortable at all, although I've never had an issues with smears/coils so know others may find it different.

Window to the Womb were pretty spot on with dating for me, when I had my 12 week scan I ended up being six days ahead but WttW were only one day off the day I'm certain I conceived.

Mine was internal but I had an abdominal scan at the Early Pregnancy Unit two weeks earlier and it was exactly the same in terms of dates. If you're around 10 weeks you'll definitely be fine!

Your 'official' due date won't be determined til 12 weeks, though.

@Nejnej @Sa11yCinnamon
That's so useful!! Thank you. You've both said really similar which is reassuring too. To be honest, I just want a rough timescale, it doesn't need to be accurate to the day, just to the week 😊
I'll consider transvaginal if they can't get images with the abdominal one, fingers crossed they won't need to.
I'm assuming they won't check for Downs, Edwards or Pataus like the NHS first scan? I doubt they will, I'm just paranoid I'm missing tests and screenings that I should be getting with the NHS if I'm further along.

Hey, I went to window to the womb for the exact same reason. I had to have transvaginal as expected to be less than 10 weeks. I think it says on the site which you should do depending on dates - I had no idea either as conceived on the pill. They didn’t do NT measurement (downs/edwards/pateu screening you’ve mentioned) like they would for the NHS and think you need to be 11-14 weeks for that. They do have a good look at everything though and did tell me about a cyst / endometriosis on my ovary. It could be worth calling - they’re quite helpful - as think you need full bladder for abdominal and empty for transvaginal :) mine was about 4/5 days different from my later NHS one :)

@ByBluePoster thats great 😄 interesting you were in a similar position to me too. I think I'll be about 10-12 weeks just going by when symptoms started but that's obviously not very accurate. I'll give them a call, I'm nervously looking forward to it.

hi! i used to work at wttw. if you think you’re 10 weeks+ then abdominal is fine BUT be prepared that there may be nothing to see on the scan as your dates may be wrong, in which case they’d advise a tv scan (totally your choice if you want to or not though). but the amount of women who come in saying they think they’re x dates and then panic when we see nothing (because baby is too small) is a lot!

Rosesanddaisies1 · 15/02/2024 21:50

I just had abdominal at 6.5 weeks and they could see everything fine, but that was in the early pregnancy unit, not a private place.

FruityPop · 16/02/2024 09:20

@strawberryswizzler I'm trying not to expect anything and just take it as it comes! I'm minimum 8 weeks, so it they couldn't see anything I would consider the transvaginal one. I really just want an idea of dates, and to check things are ok so far.

@Rosesanddaisies1 ooh that's really early for an abdominal one, that's brilliant. I'm at least 8 weeks so hopefully they'll see something on the abdominal one 🤞
