Hi everyone! Looking for some advice/someone with a similar experience to mine. So basically I started a new job in January, and within a week I found out I was 9 weeks pregnant (I had no idea due to my irregular periods) I’m now 15 weeks pregnant and I’m trying to figure out when would be the best time to tell my new employer. I’m really nervous as I’m on probation for 3 months. Has anyone lost their job due to similar circumstances? Any advice/experiences would be appreciated.

So by law you have to tell them by week 25 or your pregnancy . Worth checking out if you’re covered by maternity pay or entitled to government pay only . Also bear in mind nature of job , you need to have risk assessments in place so it might be worth telling one person if that’s the case

you are also covered by law regarding protection , you can’t be discriminated for being pregnant .

Im in the exact same boat.. irregular periods, yes me and my oh were ttc, but with irregular periods it was relatively difficult. We started ttc in august... i started my job on the monday and found out i was pregnant on the tuesday😅

Ive had all this time to get pregnant and its started as i got a job🤣

Anyway! You are covered by law, its would be discriminating if they were to let you go just because you're pregnant.

Depending on your works policy, however i dont believe you would get statutory mat pay. As i believe you've had to be working a job for so long before your able to get it.

You need to tell work 15 weeks before you are due, so that will take you to around 25 weeks, as long as its management, you dont have to tell colleagues. Thats not covered by law. Thats personal choice, but HR and management you have to tell as risk assessments have to be done for your own safety. Congratulations though!!

I have friends whos contracts were not renewed as the employer said they need people on the Job.
I also worked in a similar job and I was not pregnant it was 3 months probabtion and HR told me the same they wouldn't extend the contract. Apparently by law that is allowed. These short term contracts really work for the company. They can get away with it and be covered.

My friend had it happen twice to her. Amd she managed fine. She worked until 9 months they extended her contract once more but now offers to come back p/p.
My suggestion woupd be if possible to find locum/bank work at your local hospital. It is 0 hours but I knew loads of women who were pregnant did this. No mat pay but flexible. There is clinical and non clinical work.
