Surgeon said my c section scar was vertical but it’s horizontal?

Hi
I am very confused, this happened in June 2023 and I’d like to have another pregnancy.
I have 3 children, my 1st was vaginal, my 2nd was c section due to breech, my 3rd was an attempted VBAC which turned in to a c section due to heart rate.

My daughter was born very poorly, thankfully she’s fine but needed oxygen and assistance after delivery. If I’d just had the scheduled c section like advised this wouldn’t have happened so this is a big regret.

Anyway, obviously I was worried after my c section and on a lot of painkillers so my memory is very hazy. I have requested a meeting with the surgeon who did it.

but after my c section the surgeon came over to me and said “any future pregnancies would have to be a c section because we went through the previous c section scar and your previous surgeon had cut you vertically inside” he said something to that effect.

I am just confused because from what I’ve read if you have a vertical c section your scar will be vertical and mine isn’t?

obviously if I had another pregnancy I wouldn’t attempt a VBAC2C anyway but I just want to know what happened

Your external scar might be horizontal but inside previously someone cut into your uterus vertically.
Most likely to get baby out quickly or due to fetal positioning.

Thanks, I understand that would be what it means. I didn’t know it was possible to have an internal vertical cut without it showing on the outside and when I google it, I can’t find anything about vertical cuts on the inside that display horizontally on the outside so I’m a little confused

There are different layers that they cut, so the internal cut wouldn't necessarily be visible on the outside at all.

This is an animation showing the different steps, it's not gory as it's just a drawing but it is quite realistic (in case you prefer not to look)

I have tried to get rid of the preview but it might come up anyway, sorry.

Oh well that didn't work. Try this. S

They work if you click on the tiny "O" or "S" after the video preview Confused

How would an internal cut show on the outside? They cut through something like 7 layers, we only see one, the external one.
