30 weeks and baby hardly ever moves

This is my second baby. First baby moved constantly from 17 weeks.

This baby I've hardly felt at all. I went and got checked at 24 weeks because that's when they apparently are supposed to be quite active, so I waited for the active phase to start but it didn't, they said heartbeat fine and he's just a "lazy baby"

Heart rate was checked again at 28 week appointment, again fine.

There is something that feels not right. I don't know whether it's just a big shock to compare to my first who was always wriggling and kicking.

I honestly forget I'm pregnant with an actual baby A LOT because he just doesn't move

I worry about how I would know if something was wrong if he doesn't move much.

Midwives don't seem interested when I tell them

When I do feel baby move, it feels very "muffled?" Like I would describe it like he's wrapped in lots of blankets which is cushioning the movements so I hardly feel anything

My placenta is at the back so I can't use that as an "excuse"

I don't know what I'm supposed to do, midwives don't class it as "reduced movements" because it's not reduced because he's never moving much at all

What can I do that will put my mind at ease? All the do is listen to heartbeat :(

I actually went to hospital today because i couldnt feel much movement. And as you say they don't do much apart from listen to a heartbeat. I was worried sick, I'm 25 weeks, first baby so i dont really know what i should be feeling.

I always say instincts are there for a reason but sometimes anxiety plays tricks on us. Maybe keep a little diary of when you feel movement and if it continues in a few weeks go and see someone. All babies are different so perhaps your little one is just a bit more relaxed. xxx

It is important that something doesn’t feel right and you should listen to your instincts.

Are they just listening to heartbeat with a Doppler? I would go into clinic for reduced movements (even if not technically ‘reduced’) and explain that you are not happy with movement and have a proper CTG. I would do this repeatedly as long as still worried. How is growth and when was last scan? I would seek additional scans and make sure they look at blood flow to baby. You should get escalated for a scan if concerns on CTG or if you go in for repeated CTGs.

It may all be fine but baby could be small and/or have cord/placental difficulties etc so as long as you continue to be worried please make a nuisance of yourself and don’t let them fob you off until you are properly scanned/seen.

Go to your maternity unit at the hospital and have them hook you up to a monitor. You will sit there for an hour or so with a machine producing a graph. This will tell you how h the baby is.
keep going back if you’re not happy.
