TW: Miscarriage.

Hi,

The title is my question in a nutshell.

For some context -

My husband and I have been trying to start a family since November 2022. However, I have very long cycles, so it's proven quite difficult.

We conceived straight away in December 22 (CD26). Unfortunately, that pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage at about 10 weeks. We found out at the dating scan and a 3-month road to recovery ensued (failed miso x2 and eventually d&c, followed by complications).

Flash forward another 12 months and we conceived again (CD36). However, it's resulted in an early miscarriage.

We have been referred to a fertility specialist, but the referral is taking a while to come through.

In the meantime, I'm very uncertain about continuing to try. I have read that eggs released late can be poor quality and I wonder if that's why we keep miscarrying.

The first incident was really quite traumatic and I so I don't want to continue trying unless I know there's a chance of a successful pregnancy with my long cycles.

So I'm looking for any thoughts/experience that could help?

Thanks all. ☺️

I conceived on CD64 and am 15 weeks into a healthy pregnancy (after a miscarriage conceived on CD16! Go figure). There’s definitely hope!

@CRbear thank you. That's really helpful and definitely does give me some hope. And congratulations! A very happy and healthy 9 months to you.

@PeeBeee Ahh, that's great. Thank you. See, just hearing success stories is making me feel so much better. Congratulations and all the best for the birth!

I had really long cycle with my first but have no idea what actual CD I conceived on but must have been about 3 weeks later than average because I was only 9 weeks at my first "12 week" scan. He's now fast asleep in his bed and turning 3 on Friday!

@wannabe123 Ah that's lovely! ☺️ So good to hear.

Conceived around CD62 - I only tested on the off chance before i booked a GP appointment (I did test when my period was originally late and got a negative).

She's 7 now.

I had the same concerns about health of eggs etc. you’re not alone there! Best wishes to you

TheBirdintheCave · 07/02/2024 08:57

Yep, I ovulate later than average. With my son I ovulated on CD21 and with my current pregnancy I ovulated on CD25 as I caught a virus earlier in the month which delayed it even more.

As an extra note, I had three miscarriages in between the two pregnancies, two MMCs in a row and then an IVF chemical. No cause was found for them and I conceived this baby naturally the month after the chemical and all is well. My consultant just put it down to bad luck due to increasing age. I'm 37.

I have PCOS so regularly have verrrrrry long cycles. Currently 30w pregnant and this baby was conceived on CD29. This pregnancy was a natural conception and has so far been exactly the same as my first, which was via ovulation induction with letrozole so conception was bang on CD14. First baby was conceived when i was 34, this one when i was 37.

Im sure this is the case so hope you dont think that i am trying to teach you to suck eggs, but are you and your DH both taking good quality supplements, cut back on alcohol, healthy weights etc. Our first baby was a lockdown baby and this time around, we both felt that we were looking after ourselves much better, which we think might have also made a difference. Good luckFlowers

Hi there

I haven't tried it but have you looked into taking myo-inositol to regulate your cycles?

I have pretty regular periods but sadly still had to have TFMR due to Edwards Syndrome, there are just so many factors but I believe my age (38 at the time) and I guess egg and sperm quality was the problem.

@Frlrlrubert Ah that's lovely to hear. ☺️

I ovulate fairly later in my cycle, I tend to ovulate anywhere between CD18-21 (usually CD20) and fell pregnant on cycle 2 of TTC. Unfortunately it was a chemical and were still TTC now on cycle 13 but I've read lots of positive stories of conceiving no matter when you ovulate. I'm also waiting for my fertility referral appointment this month. X

@TheBirdintheCave Oh really? That's so interesting. I'm really glad all is well and best wishes for your pregnancy. ☺️ I'm 32 this year, so definitely still time, but it's been a challenge! This gives me hope that it's just bad luck, though. And luck always has to turn at some point!

@CrispAppleStrudels Thank you for your comment. That's really interesting. I've not been diagnosed with anything like PCOS, but I imagine it's coming once I get in with the consultant if I'm honest. And that wouldn't be a bad thing as then hopefully they can get me on Letrozole, as you say, or Clomid. Even if just to give me 12 tries a year instead of 6! Ha. And yes, both very healthy - non smokers, barely drink to be honest, regular exercise, decent diets, all the good stuff. So hopefully a healthy pregnancy is just around the corner. ☺️ 🤞🏻

@MrsScotland Oh I'm so sorry to hear this and I hope you're doing well, all things considered. So I've tried preconception supplements in the past that had inositol in them - sometimes they seemed to make my cycles longer! So I've recently taken a break (just folic acid and vitamin d at the moment). Although funnily enough that's when I conceived ha. But I have just purchased some PCOS specific victims, with M-I in, from Free Soul, so I'll see how they go. I'm just experimenting really until I can get in to see a medical professional.
