Panicking - Peptac/gaviscon and sodium bicarbonate content

Hi all. I’m 10 weeks pregnant and last week due to severe acid reflux I was prescribed Peptac to take (the exact same ingredients as gaviscon). The nurse practitioner and the midwife both assured me it’s safe in pregnancy and the doctor I saw on Friday also confirmed the same and that I shouldn’t be nervous about taking it. However, I’ve seen in the bottle it contains sodium bicarbonate and while the bottle says safe in pregnancy the NHS website says should not have sodium bicarbonate while pregnant.

I am so confused by the conflicting information, and panicked that I’ve caused some harm to the baby by taking it (I had an MMC in August so I’m feeling really anxious).

can anyone advise if they’ve taken it during pregnancy and was everything okay?

I was consuming it by the bottle throughout a large proportion of my pregnancy. DS is nearly 16 now 😁. It wouldn't be prescribed if it wasn't safe.

I've also been consuming a large amount since about 8 weeks pregnant. I'm now 38 weeks and everythings going perfect.
It's fine to take 😊
I actually found it more effective to take omeprazole tabs daily and then gaviscon as needed on top of.

Thanks @DelilahBucket @Kiwiburgh . That had reassured me a little. I just don’t understand the conflicting information on the NHS website. I’ll try to carry on trusting what I’ve been told though.

It says that you shouldn't take it if you have high blood pressure, and as we all know, blood pressure is taken at every appointment so maybe that's why?

One of my closest friends is a GP and went through an insane amount of gaviscon during pregnancy. She also got something else for heartburn by pretending it was for someone else... not recommended in the slightest, but she reckoned it was worth it!

I drank gaviscon like water in my first pregnancy, daughter is now happily reading her books!

@Thankyouthankyoujellybean thats interesting to know thank you. I actually have low blood pressure where before I was pregnant I was advised to increase my salt intake, so maybe I’m over thinking it.

@Flopsy145 this is reassuring to know thank you
