Ectopic pregnancy rupture experiences

Hey everyone. Just looking for some hope really..
start of September 2023, I had an ectopic pregnancy and my right tube ruptured. This resulted in me getting emergency surgery to remove the tube. So now I am left with my left tube which they think is working fine. My cycle has went back to normal and is lasting around 26-28 days. So far no luck on getting pregnant again. I am tracking ovulation and using the Flo app and am taking folic acid again. I’m just wondering if there’s another mums out there who have went though a similar experiment and how long it had taken them to fall pregnant again. Or if there’s any other advice on what else I can do to heighten my chances
it’s something me and my partner really want, and it’s hurting us a lot with each month that goes by when I get my period.
thanks

Hi,
I don't have any particular advice for you. I went through the same ordeal in November which was fairly horrible. Waited one cycle before trying again and have somehow managed to get pregnant this time round. Obviously there is a lot of anxiety, I'm having a fair amount of on-off spotting which is worrying. Had an early scan at 6w which showed an intrauterine pregnancy but only a 4mm sac (estimated a 5w gestation - quite possible that I ovulated later but I'm feeling quite negative about having a successful pregnancy and will have to wait until my next scan next week). Interestingly it looked like I ovulated from my right ovary (the side without the tube). There are studies that show about a third of intrauterine pregnancies travel down the opposite tube. How long were you trying for before the ectopic? My doctor told me after the operation that "you've got proven fertility so that's half the battle won already" which is reassuring. Wishing the best for you in the future.

Thanks for the reply Glasgirl92, I have everything crossed for you that everything goes okay. I can imagine how worried you are right now. The whole ectopic rupture is probably one of the most traumatic/painful experiences I’ve ever gone through. I was on the injection for years and came off it and it had taken 18months for my to get my first period which was in April 2023 then fell pregnant in August 2023 then found out it was ectopic pregnancy and then my tube ruptured. It all happened so fast. I’m hopeful I fall pregnant soon but I will be a nervous wreck also!

I know it feels disheartening every month that goes by and you're not pregnant but it's not been long since your surgery. I don't know if you've been on the website ectopic.org.uk but I found it really comforting and they have a message board with lots of people's (good news) stories. They say up to 85% of women will get pregnant again within 18 months, which is slightly longer than if you haven't had an ectopic before (>80% in 12 months) but still not too bad!

I lost my right tube in late 2022. I conceived again in May and but had a miscarriage at 5+2. I had to go to A&E (Sat so EPU was closed) to get a scan to rule out another ectopic (my location scan was booked for 5+4).

I then conceived again in September. I'm now 23 weeks. So far everything is going well. I had a location scan at 5+3 and a viability scan at 7+3.

When I had my ectopic some of the staff treating me had direct experience - one of the nurses had had an ectopic and went out to have 2 DC. One of the doctors was one of 2 DC born to his mum after her ectopic. There's lots of reason for optimism and I hope you get your rainbow baby soon. Don't forget you must get EPU to give you an early location scan at 5-6 weeks for all future pregnancies. Mine is GP referral only but some are self referral.

Thank you everyone for your replies it means so much. I know I am maybe putting a little too much pressure on my self for it to happen, it just hurts a little. Everyone around me seems to be announcing they’re pregnant just now or having babies and of course I am happy for everyone it’s just bitter sweet sometimes. Nice to hear some happy endings though. X
