Help I'm struggling to take my vitamins

So from this weekend I'm finding it impossible to swallow my vitamins, folic acid and vitamin D. Every time I try I heave and bring them back up. I'm suffering from all day nausea and struggling with fluids x

Would a chewy one help?

jenn88 · 04/02/2024 22:17

Take a combined tablet? I always took might at night time, right before sleep! My sickness was less at that time and I would go straight to sleep

TTCSoManyQuestions88 · 04/02/2024 22:32

I take them with dinner, it helps. I don't take those combined pregnacare ones, they make me sick. I just take the basic folic acid and separate vitamin D.

My2boysaremyworld · 04/02/2024 22:43

@eggbot didn't know that was an option? X

@TTCSoManyQuestions88 that's what I'm doing. There's no way I could even attempt them big bloody pregnacare ones lol.

I've seen chewy vitamin c and a few others but never folic acid...might be a worth a trip to the pharmacy?

whatahat · 05/02/2024 05:59

I second the suggestion to try the gummy version. Pregnacsre does a gummy one - it's worth a shot!

fruitpastille · 05/02/2024 06:25

I don't know about folic acid but you can get spray vitamins from Better You. Vit D is minty.

Lillers · 05/02/2024 06:26

Have you tried taking them with a fizzy drink instead of flat? The bubbles can help them go down.

Justkoko · 05/02/2024 06:44

When I was expecting I discovered that if I took vits on an empty stomach, I'd feel sick soon after. I think it may be the iron. I won't ever take a vit without eating a bit of something now.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 05/02/2024 06:49

How far along are you?

Take folic acid, don't bother with the others. Try again in a couple of weeks/months if the nausea has subsided.

My2boysaremyworld · 05/02/2024 09:31

@Lillers I always do lol. I'm a nightmare normally with tablets and have to use pop. Not working at the moment 😩

@CrispsandCheeseSandwich I'm nearly 10 weeks. I need my vitamin D especially after having 3 consecutive miscarriages. Thankfully only got 2 weeks left of the folic acid x

Ah fair enough. 10 weeks is peak morning sickness so hopefully this won't last long for you! Could you cut the pills in half, take half with breakfast and half with dinner?

Flopsy145 · 05/02/2024 12:24

You can get chewy pregnancy ones on Amazon

Flopsy145 · 05/02/2024 12:24

And I think pregnacare do a liquid so that might be easier!

glasspaw · 05/02/2024 17:31

I had this with every pregnancy vitamin I tried until switching to these https://rhitritionplus.com/pregnancy-multivitamin

I don’t know what is different, but they’re the only ones I’ve been able to keep down this pregnancy. I was less sensitive last time and managed with the chewy pregnacare ones which were a bit cheaper but tasted disgusting.

I switched to the gummy prenatal vitamins when I was sick was the only vitamin I could keep down and has folic acid in it

MrsW9 · 05/02/2024 23:35

I got the really tiny basic Boots folic acid and vitamin D tablets for when I was feeling bad - I was able to swallow those without bringing them back up. I also tried the Pregnacare liquid which also made me feel somewhat nauseous but seemed to irritate my stomach a bit less so I generally wasn't sick. From around the second trimester when sickness went away I was fine taking a pregnancy multivitamin again.
