Cot near radiator?

My bedroom doesn't have much spare space - think a fairly small room with a kingsize bed. The bedroom is typically pretty warm and I sleep with the window open.

The two sides to the bed are next to the door and next to the window and radiator (my side of the bed).

it just occurred to me that it might be a bad idea to have a baby right next to the radiator.

Do I need to move the bedroom around - the only option would be to have the head of the bed against the radiator and window (which sounds like a bad idea)?

Not by a radiator or under an open window

Could you just have the radiator permanently off for the months that baby is in with you? Easier than moving the room around.

Can you just turn that radiator off? I had a similar layout and turned the radiator to 0 so it never heated up and baby went next to it in crib.

Yep, just turn the radiator off.

open window you can just judge as you go.

Thanks all, this has only just occurred to me. I am only 12 weeks so plenty of time to plan. I think turning the radiator off is the only solution. The bed won't fit the other way round.

I didn't know about the open window - that will take some getting used to!

The same was happening with me and I am so conscious about my baby. The elder told me to turn off my room radiator and I do it. Now I feel Ok

I had to do this with my first and we just turned the radiator off, the window was open during summer but she was about 4 months by then.
Could you move the bed almost touching the radiator and your DP go there and you go on other side with baby next to you but not in way of the door?

TigerJoy · 05/02/2024 09:28

This is a good idea. It'll be odd sleeping on the other side of the bed though!

Radiator off will work until October but after that might get a bit cold. Baby will be sleeping with us until at least January.

I used the sleep with a fan on every night until I had DD2, you soon adjust :) we turned the radiator off, you could get an oil radiator from the bedroom to keep it warm in the winter months, or pre heat the room, then turn the radiator off and hour before you go to bed
