Strange sour taste in mouth

HELP

I am 27+3 and have had a strange sour taste in my mouth since the start of the week.

Thought it was because I have still got morning sickness and was a hangover from that but asked the midwife about it when I saw her this week (whole other story there) and she ignored the question.

Does anyone else have this or know why I have got it. Diet hasn't changed or anything like that as far as I know

Thanks

are you eating enough carbohydrate? as ketosis causes this.

i had a strange tast in mouth was uterly discusting told midwife she says its perfectly normal i had it with my dd and ds

bethoo · 21/03/2008 13:40

is it a metallic taste as that is common from early pregnancy.

hedgehog1979 · 21/03/2008 14:54

Am still eating plenty of carbs - about the only thing I can keep down is peanut butter sandwiches.

I had the metallic taste in early pregnancy but this is definitely a sour taste - even after I have eaten something sweet

Well as long as I am not going to start vomiting constantly again suppose it is nothing to worry about

Thanks for your help

I,ve had a strange bitter metallicy taste in my mouth all the way so far (18wks). Particularly bad after eating sugary things (doesn't stop me though). Have asked midwife about it and told that some woman just get it. Not really the answer I was after but what can you do. Wish it would go away though. xx

'boak' I have this all the time, like all the time. Its like I have drunk milk and its gone sour in my mouth.

Sometimes its so bad it makes me feel sick. The only way to get rid of it is to brush your tongue really well (if you can stand it). I find that if I do this it goes away till I eat again. I am eating very healthy and with lots of carbs. I am 35+weeks and have had it since the kick off. In fact I have got it right now. Gross

A sour taste can be from bleeding gums or a build up of bacteria in the gum area. Unfortunately during pregnancy it can really get bad because you are more prone to gum bleeding and the little bugs think it's a buffet and hang out there. You need to scrape your tongue and brush more (I know, scraping my tongue is a surefire way to make me vomit). I personally use mouthwash instead and just floss a lot (which again makes me nauseous but is better than the sour taste).

Will try and keep up the teeth brushing although it is guaranteed to send me into the bathroom (which DH has renamed the 'barf room' not very funny)

At least I know I am not alone. Was too scared to google as I do tend to imagine the worst.

Have you tried switching to cinnamint toothpaste. I find mint toothpastes make me barf but fennel or cinnamint doesn't Tis a bugger to get though - Holland and Barratt sell it.

Also you sometimes find it you drink cold water before brushing it stops you feeling so sick - or at least I do.
