Different measurements at scans?

I had a private scan which dated me 5w5d and 3.75mm. I then had NHS scan 4 days later which dated me 5w4d and 2.7mm. Fetal pole and yolk sack were seen. Back in a week to hopefully find heartbeat. Could measurements just be off because baby is tiny and could be different positioning? I’m really clutching at this theory🤞🏼 nhs didn’t want to take note of private scan so wouldn’t say anything about their measurements, just that they’d follow up from their scan in a week.

From personal experience only, 1 day out is really no issue at all. The NHS will expect to see growth based on their measurements especially in the early stages.

With my last my scans were a few days out with private versus NHS but there were no concerns and my boy is perfect.

Currently my scan dates don't match with my lmp by over a week so I'm worried about progression as a week in the early stages can be an issue but a day isn't anything I would personally be concerned over xx

At 5 weeks the measurements are tiny mms and creates room for error. 5 weeks is too early for dating anyway which is why they date you closer to the 12 weeks
Nhs will disregard any private scans

@BoyMomma4 ues, my lmp would have been 7 weeks but I dated 5 weeks at both but I do have longer cycles. I guess I’m overthink as heartbeat wasn’t seen but hopefully it will be seen next week at my EPU follow up scan!

Do you have an update with this as I am in a similar position? I hope it’s all good news for you! Xx

They're literally dealing in fractions of millimetres at this early stage and machines can vary, sonographers experience etc. It's better not to get multiple scans at different places for this exact reason.

Just wait till your follow up and see if baby has grown proportionately from then, if there's a HB etc.

Early on, a scan can be out -/+ a week, so I was told by a sonographer when it happened to me (all was fine). A slight misplacement of the measurement can easily do this.

It is not an exact science.

Don’t worry.

@TheBusyLemonAnt Unfortunately for me this pregnancy was a silent miscarriage. My follow up scan showed no growth and no heartbeat. However, like everyone else has said it’s very early stages so could go either way! I did go on and fall pregnant again in the summer and gave birth to my little rainbow girl 3 weeks ago. Sorry it’s not a reassuring outcome on my end but I will keep my fingers crossed for you. 🤞🏼xx

@sel2223 This thread is quite old, I unfortunately had indeed had a missed miscarriage.
