As the title says really. those that have had the Rh- negative dna screening to see if baby is Rh + or - how long did it take for results? It's been over a week here and haven't heard anything.

I had my booking appointment yesterday, and was told the dna screening gets taken at your 12 week scan and discussed at the 16 week midwife appointment?

Bells3032 · 31/01/2024 10:33

Oh last time I got them emailed to me. but don't remember how long they take

Mine took 10 days to come through via the app, if it’s a letter it could take longer I guess and probably depends on area as well.

Hey! I had my bloods taken to find out the blood type of my baby at my 16-week midwife appointment (they sent me a form for them from my 12-week scan). This was done this Monday.

I was advised it could take about a week and the midwives would get the results first, but ours would come via a letter. But I guess it could vary depending on your location and how busy the department is? We wouldn't be getting injections till later in the pregnancy if we needed to anyway, but you could always call up your midwife and ask in-case they do have the results before you do 🙂

The routine anti D injection isn’t until 28 weeks, however if you have a bleed or knock to your bump any time after 12 weeks, and the baby’s rhesus status is either positive or unknown, then you’d need the anti D within 72 hours. They would give the injection after a sensitising event as a precaution if the results were not available yet.

that's interesting to know! Thank you, I was never advised of this but it's great to be aware of!

Neither was I during my first pregnancy - it’s ridiculous that it’s not something you’re automatically made aware of! I only know this time around due to a couple of incidents where I’ve needed it.

My midwife told me at the 16w appointment but the results had popped up on our hospital app before then, so if you have an app where your blood results / appointment letters go, you could check on there?

I don't think they generally refer you to an obstrician due to you being rh-. You'll have to ask. May just be a standard thing your hospital does
