Travelling while pregnant

I have a holiday to spain booked for July. We are coach travelling with siesta.
I've just found out I'm pregnant. I'm so confused on whether to cancel holiday or go?

When's your due date?

my partner and I did a holiday to fuerteventura when I was 28 weeks pregnant. It was lovely to just swim, relax, eat lots, wander around. Obviously it meant we couldn’t do any extreme sports and I probably wouldn’t have wanted to go much further along in pregnancy as it was getting a bit achy to walk for long. Also, obviously Spain is a built up place with good healthcare if you needed anything, and not a very long flight, so I’d say as long as your pregnancy is problem-free at that stage, go for it!

Sorry - just seen you said coach travelling. Does that mean travelling by coach all the way to Spain or just around Spain? If really long days of coach travel, I’m not sure you’ll enjoy that once quite far along.

How many weeks will you be? I’m 28 weeks and I couldn’t do a coach holiday as I constantly need a wee! I would find it super uncomfortable sitting for so long too.

I went to Greece when I was 21 weeks pregnant and we had an hours bus transfer from the airport to hotel. This was in October when it wasn’t too hot. It wasn’t a horrendous journey, but I don’t think I could have gone for too much longer if I was more heavily pregnant and it’s middle of summer. It would be quite warm, you need to make sure you’re drinking a lot so then you’ll need the toilet alot, it’s hard to get comfy on coach seats etc etc.
If you flew I think you’d be ok, but a long coach trip doesn’t sound fun at 6 months pregnant to be honest.

Would be travelling there and back so a day and half there ion coach and then same back.

It's best to get your doctor's advice because every body is different. What works for one person might not for another. For example, I've been asked not to travel even short distances because I have a short cervix. So please get a green light from your doctor!

I’m not sure sitting still for that length of time when pregnant is ideal tbh for fear of blood clots. I would also hate the heat and the potential for travel sickness or food poisoning or not being able to drink wine or eat seafood when pregnant, and would definitely stay at home or go somewhere within uk but each to their own! Good luck with your decision op. Spain does have great health care.

If you're due on September 22nd, I guess you'll be at least 28 weeks pregnant? I would feel happy going abroad then, but there's absolutely no way I could have travelled for that long on a coach, I'd have been in agony. I'd either fly (you may need a doctor/midwife note that far along), maybe ferry (don't know ferry rules about pregnancy, cruises would be a no go by then though), or go somewhere much closer, maybe in the UK - in July the weather should be lovely so a UK holiday would hopefully still give you a sunny break!

Shortbreadfingerss · 31/01/2024 13:16

Can you take out the coach element and fly? I think I would feel ok to fly a short distance at 28 weeks. I drove a few hours in the car last week and my back was in agony by the end and I had to stop 4 times for the loo.

Olika · 31/01/2024 13:33

Personally I wouldn't have been able to do it as I was feeling slightly nauseous all day and sitting so long would have been too much for me.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 31/01/2024 14:57

I'd be concerned by sitting down for that long, can you fly there instead?

Charden37 · 31/01/2024 16:34

Hi again all. I've brought the holiday forward so I won't be as far on when travelling.

I think that's a good idea. Congratulations and enjoy!

Charden37 · 31/01/2024 20:13

Thank you 😊

Congratulations! I think you made the right choice. It's pretty uncomfortable to sit for such long periods once you're in your 3rd trimester and Spain in July will hot which is much worse when you're pregnant.
