TW BLEEDING - 12 weeks, terrified

Please help, I'm terrified. 12 weeks to the day and until now everything with the pregnancy has been going well, usual symptoms and a strong heart beat detected at 7 weeks 6 days, no spotting

Today, without warning, I had a sudden rush of bright red blood followed by heavy watery discharge, then the following two times I went to the loo the water was bright red with blood, so i think there must've been a fair amount. No clots from what i could see. This all happened within approx 2 hours, then nothing

Ita now the following morning and there's been no blood since, not even spotting, and no cramping either.

To make matters worse I'm currently abroad and the medical assistance here isn't great, so i cant run to the EPU. Flight home isn't until Friday

Freaking out is an understatement. Just wondering, do I assume this is definitely a misscarriage or is there any chance it could be something less sinister? 😢 what do I do?! Also terrified of flying home in case the worst happens in the air

So sorry you’re going through this. I’ve been there at 12w currently 15w and thankfully everything turned out well although I did had spotting for weeks after the bleed.
in which country are you if you don’t mind me asking? Most EU countries do have an emergency maternity hospital.

TheShellBeach · 30/01/2024 01:58

It may well be a sub-chorionic haematoma.

They usually resolve by themselves and don't compromise the fetus.

I hope things turn out all right for you, OP.

Thanks for your reply! Im so glad all is ok for you and baby!
Did they ever find out the cause of bleeding for you?
I'm in the maldives - so access to a hospital is a little difficult as we're just on a small island. I think the island has a doctor but im not sure they could tell me much without a scan. Midwife gave the all clear to come here but regretting it and wish I could be home 😔 I've booked a private scan for Saturday when home, its just the most horrible wait until then and an 11 hour flight Friday to contend with!

Thank you, so do I 😞
I'm trying to tell myself it's a good sign the bleeding has stopped and I'm not having cramps, but feel like I'm giving myself false hope at the moment. Husband is trying to be strong for me but he broke down yesterday too, so I think we both expect the worst, but praying for the best. Hoping it could be as you say

@BumbleAw they never said with certainty the cause of the bleeding. They could spot a small hematoma but they were suspecting a low laying placenta as well. I never got a clear explanation.
hope everything turns outs well for you, but honestly if you have no more bleeding or cramping the chances are you’re just fine.
bleeding in pregnancy is more common than we think, most of the drs that I’ve seen so far didn’t even flinch when I was explaining what was happening!

I hope the bleeding has stopped now. It's a good sign that you haven't got any pain. I wouldn't jump straight to the conclusion that you're having a miscarriage, either - some women just have bleeding in their pregnancies which doesn't cause any problems for the baby.

And when I was bleeding, I naturally panicked and thought it was all over, but I was wrong, and DD was born some months later, perfectly all right.

2 weeks ago (when I was around 11 weeks pregnant) I woke up to my bedsheets covered in blood and expected the worst. Went to the A&E had a scan and everything was totally fine, they had no idea what had caused the bleeding.

2magpie · 01/02/2024 11:28

I had horrific bleeding up.until about 12 weeks, including gushes of bright red blood with clots. It was awful, but no scans ever found the cause. Im 16 weeks now and no bleeding for a few weeks...its really scary but i read hundreds of stories of bleeding in pregnancy with good outcomes so stay positive if you can xxx

TheShellBeach · 07/02/2024 18:52

Have you been scanned, OP?

Flopsy145 · 11/02/2024 12:31

I would say sub chorionic hematoma sounds exactly like what I had except I also passed clots, the lack of cramping and the gush of blood was also the same as me. Hope you've managed to have an appointment now!

TwoWithCurls · 11/02/2024 12:34

I had bright red bleeding twice, with both my successful pregnancies, always in the first trimester. With my miscarriages (I've had 3) the bleeding always started with dark red/brown/mucus and came on slowly, like a period. The bright red bleeds I had were very much like you describe, and there was no explanation, other than it may have come from my cervix, as I have a cervical erosion (very common and harmless). Best of luck 🤞🏻
