As thr title says. I am sitting here in tears. I am 20 weeks pregnant and have had tonsilitis amd now a chest infection for the last 2 weeks. Because of this is have been having extreme coughing fit's that has led to really bad stress incontinence. The reason why I need help Is because I am RED RAW from all the peeing :( I've been using pads, and tena lady and changing my pads and underwear regularly and even got give aquesus cream from pharmacy ( which has helped for a little while until I cough and pee myself again ) but I just had a massive coughing fir and had a look amd the skin is basically peeling off down there !!! I feel like I've been badly burned :( I have anti bionics which is helping get rid of the chest problem but I'm still coughing and leaking. I've never had this problem before. Please what is safe I pregnancy to please use as it it so so sore and depressing me : ( thank you

You need a barrier cream not aq for incontinence. Check with the pharmacists which is best as I can't find specifics online for preg use, but in hospitals we use cavillon barrier cream for incontinence and sweat sores in icu/elderly

Hope you're better soon

That sounds so miserable you poor thing. I wonder if it may have a fungal element due to the antibiotics. Maybe cloth pads? As well as some thrush treatment that is approved. I hope someone can offer more advice.

Pigeonqueen · 28/01/2024 18:15

I have very bad stress incontinence and bladder issues (wear pads 24/7, I’m 43) and I’ve never been red raw from peeing. It sounds like you might have thrush which has developed because of the antibiotics. I think you should seek medical advice - if it is thrush there are things they can give you - as you’re pregnant I wouldn’t buy anything without speaking to someone. You don’t have to have the typical white discharge for it to be thrush.

Really?? Thank you for your response.. I feel like the pads have really really irritated my skin. I feel so miserable :( will speak 2 the gp tomorrow... so how do you keep yourself from being in pain ? I've been changing myself , changing pads , showering daily, aqueous cream while showering and doing everything I can:(

You poor thing. Use Vaseline if you have any.

Mrsm010918 · 28/01/2024 19:10

If its not thrush I'd try the yellow metanium cream, it's a nappy rash ointment which is like liquid gold for wee related soreness

HowDoTheyGetThroughLife · 28/01/2024 19:12

The same as for babies with nappy rash - Sudocrem. It's lovely stuff and works quite quickly (leave it on overnight).

Used to use it a lot on elderly people when I worked as a carer for many years.

Cloth pads will be much less irritating.

Jug of warm water and wash your bits whenever you go to toilet.

And speak to pharmacist about a safe cream to use on genitals.

Yes this is brilliant but I’d also make sure you’re washing as often as you can rather than leaving urine on the skin.

Barrier cream and reusable pads/knickers so much more gentle than disposable ones. I use the ones from Cheeky.

mum2boys1504 · 28/01/2024 19:19

I was thinking nappy cream .. how embarrassing thankyou

You poor thing. My DD had the most terrible nappy rash when she was a baby. It looked as though someone had poured a kettle of boiling water over her. It sounds similar.

Agree with the metanium recommendation although we did see the GP who prescribed an antibiotic cream which really helped. Magic stuff. We were told to apply that and then put sudocrem over the top... specifically loads of it. A really thick layer to form a barrier.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

mum2boys1504 · 28/01/2024 20:04

Thankyou for your reply. I think I'm going to try sudacrem tonight as that's all I have in and then get some metanium.. I'm also going to talk to the gp as I really shouldn't have 2 deal with this. It is exactly like Ed raw nappy rash :( your poor girl must have been miserable ... thank you for your advice. Its hard cos I don't want to be upset / stressed whilst pregnant don't want to effect the baby .. meant to be enjoying my pregnancy x

She was but she improved so fast with the antibiotic cream so I think talking to GP is a good idea.

mum2boys1504 · 28/01/2024 21:01

Thank you so much I'll defiantly talk to the gp. My god have had such a hard few weeks his has been the Looooooongest january ever . I will try my best and get back to you. Sorry about the embarrassing post:(

This sounds horrendous you poor thing!! See the GP urgently, you need a certain diagnosis not just a pharmacist.
