Hi All,

I’m 33 weeks pregnant with twins so just wanting to stay on the safe side. This random lump has appeared on my thigh. (Apologies for inner thigh photo, promise I’m not a creep!)

It looked just like a skin tag this morning, then when I got home earlier around 5 it was deep purple, very painful and a red ring around it.

I called GP who was luckily still open and they prescribed antibiotics sharpish over the phone with a picture sent of it, but didn’t see it in person. I just got them, but it’s even more swollen now and the red swelling is more pronounced.

Has anyone got any idea what this is, and/or if I need to do more than just take the antibiotics?

Thank you!!

I don’t like the shape of it or the colour. Broken vessels under skin, like when we get a bruise do turn blue/purple as the blood ages and gets consumed by our immune system, but something seems a bit off with this. Are you taking any meds that affect blood? Or hormones?

31weeksgone · 26/01/2024 21:45

I’m on aspirin for the twin pregnancy, but no other medicine apart from that. Looks like I’m ringing 111 and asking if I can send the photo in, or emergency GP tomorrow. Thanks all!

Good luck! I think the thing itself is not serious if you’re on antibiotics , but I would be really curious as to what caused it.

2u2years · 26/01/2024 21:52

Is that red line coming away from the rest new? That looks like infection tracking, which is a sign of sepsis. Do you have any other symptoms, fever? Increased heart rate, breathing changes? Confusion?

What antibiotics did they originally give you, Flucloxacillin?

31weeksgone · 26/01/2024 21:59

Thank you for messages. I feel fine in myself apart from the high BP at the midwife earlier, she wouldn’t look at it as it’s a doctor problem not a midwife problem apparently. I’m on Fluclox yes, I’ve taken 9 of them so far (2 Wednesday evening, 4 Thursday and nearly the full 4 doses today.)

I would get that checked out immediately.

overthinkersanonnymus · 26/01/2024 22:03

Immediately get that to the wall in center or a&e. The red line is called tracking and it's a sign of sepsis

TheFormidableMrsC · 26/01/2024 22:07

Please don't leave that tracking mark until tomorrow. It's shit and inconvenient and everything else but I implore you to get that seen to immediately. It's a sign of sepsis and I have horrible experience of that. I don't wish to alarm but that really can't be left.

31weeksgone · 26/01/2024 22:11

On the phone to 111 now, thank you.

Agree, that tracking is new since your first photos and needs checking. Use a marker pen to dot around the edge of the redness. Biro just wears off.

theduchessofspork · 26/01/2024 22:12

Agree about getting it checked immediately - as PPs say, the creeping line can be a sign of sepsis - not to be messed with full stop but you especially do not want a case of sepsis when your immune system is lowered as it is in pregnancy.

31weeksgone · 26/01/2024 22:19

111 said the out of hours hospital is going to ring this evening within the next 2 hours, thanks all for pushing me, I thought I was being a dramatic pregnant lady! 😬

How are babies movements? After 2 and a half days of antibiotics you shouldn't have new redness spreading like that.

I'm a pharmacist and I'd be sending you to A&E if I'd seen you in the pharmacy. You are definitely NOT wasting anyone's time by being seem tonight. Sepsis can develop rapidly.

2u2years · 26/01/2024 22:25

Have you got someone with you while you're waiting for the call back?

maria2bela1 · 26/01/2024 22:28

You've done the right thing by calling, hopefully they'll give you a call back soon, main thing is you e caught it early

merrymelodies · 26/01/2024 22:30

That doesn't look good at all. I'm glad to hear that you're taking immediate action, OP. Flowers

MerryMarigold · 26/01/2024 22:38

OP, I got all sorts of ill by 33 weeks with twins. Went to A & E around that time, felt very sick/ faint and they said I had v low blood pressure. They kept me in for a day. One of my twins was born quite ill at 37 weeks (I reckon he got the same thing I had had, somehow).

I'd definitely get it checked out and get the babies monitored.

31weeksgone · 26/01/2024 22:45

My husbands home luckily and the babies are moving fine and well I think, if anything they’re super wriggly.

No appointments left tonight from 111, but should be seen tomorrow by out of hours GP, any changes I’m to ring back. Thanks for everyone’s advice 😊I’ll update tomorrow!

It's tracking so you're right to get seen!

DyslexicPoster · 27/01/2024 00:42

Good luck with the appointment

31weeksgone · 27/01/2024 16:12

I saw a GP, they think infested cyst, to keep going with the antibiotics I’m on as the tracking hasn’t got worse today and keep an eye on it, but it’s heading in the right direction. Thanks all for all of the advice 🌺
