High blood Pressure

I’m hoping some ladies might be able to offer any advice or share their experiences with high blood pressure in pregnancy.

we are very blessed and lucky that we are expecting our ivf miracle in summer. I’ve never had high BP but at my 12 week appointment it was 145/90 they did a blood test which showed I have a low hormone so I’m high risk for pre eclampsia.

I’m now 14 weeks and unfortunately my bp seems to be getting higher (175/98) and the hospital are putting me onto medication. I’ve got myself into a bit of a panic because I can’t find much information about BP going high so early on I’m absolutely terrified it could affect the baby. I’m relatively fit and healthy although I do have a heart condition so whether this has caused this,

is there anything I could try to naturally lower it and did anybody have high BP and was everything all ok?

thank you !

I'm currently 22 weeks and have being on Labetalol since 15 weeks and they have just introduced nifedipine as well to try and keep it within what they want, I've had pre eclampsia previously, I am seen twice weekly at day assessment and my midwife weekly, plus I check my blood pressure at home, it's a waiting game.
Congratulations and I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Please try not to worry.
Hypertension can worsen during pregnancy for a myriad of reasons- they'll just put you on labetalol and if you have high risk factors for pre-eclampsia they will also tell you to take aspirin.

I started medication at about week 9 for hypertension and I think on week 16 or so that was increased.

I have had a couple of urine tests look a bit dodgy, but they don't tend to worry unless it's at the very same time as your BP being uncontrolled and you have other symptoms.

Lifestyle factors which will help you to decrease your blood pressure:
Exercise- even walking 30 minutes a day will help.
Eating a cleaner diet, lower sodium, lower caffeine, less foods that are highly preserved like ham etc. Concentrate on having lots of fruits and vegetables, and porridge is a good food to have.
Hydrate, lower stress.

Try not to worry, you'll have lots of people checking on your BP and your urine so even if you do develop pre eclampsia you'll know early and they'll do everything they can to help you and baby.

I have had hypertension since the birth of my first child 8 years ago and have been on medication ever since, I’m now pregnant with my second and have had medication the whole way through so far with 3 increases but I’m now 37 weeks and so far it’s been controlled no problem, I’ve been able to home monitor and have only had to have more regular check ups as the pregnancy has developed. I did have preeclampsia quite seriously with my first but because of the hypertension already being there this time I’ve been monitored all the way through and it has been amazing how well they have looked after me, because they are aware of the risks they really do keep an eye on you so please don’t worry 😊
