Placenta covering cervix

I had a scan at 20 weeks and they said my placenta was posterior and low lying. Didn't really say much else but just said they'd rescan me at 32 weeks which I've got booked in the next couple weeks. However I have had two private scans in between the 20 week scan (due to previous early miscarriage) and for peace of mind as had a couple of worries. One of those scans was just last week. At both my last two private scans the sonographer has said my placenta is covering my cervix os. So I'm guessing this means placenta previa. Again no advice given just to go to 32 week nhs scan. I'm currently 28 weeks so another 4 weeks till scan. I've got a midwife appt next week. My worry is I work 12.5 hours in a hospital constantly on my feet, have 2 breaks a day. I don't know whether I'm at risk or I should continue as normal as ive only just really read up about placenta previa. Any advice?

I had this. The main thing is they won't want you to go into natural labour, and will book you in for a c section at 37 weeks.
I had my dd 2 weeks ago and recovering well and I had other complications (not related to the placenta)
Try not to worry, though you may want to slow down working those long shifts if you can, as if you go into labour naturally it will have to be an emergency section as there is no way for the baby to get down the birth canal x

@CaribbeanCupcake I have no way of slowing down as I work shifts in the hospital so there's no way of me shortening them or anything, I'm kind of at a loss really. Glad to hear you and baby are well! I'm just hoping everything goes well! X

What have your occupation health department suggested?

Bethpaigeox · 24/01/2024 16:20

@Greybeardy I haven't spoken to them to be honest, maybe I should phone them. I was holding off till my next midwife appointment to see what they advised but wasn't sure.

Maternity is covered by so many rights these days, I think you would be surprised. Defo chat to occy health and see what they can suggest but you're covered so should be open to helping you

I second talking to occupational health. I had placenta previa with my first and there were various things work were able to do to help once I raised it.

I ended up with a very calm ELCS at 37+1 and the recovery was fine.

Good luck!

Has your manager done a risk assessment because they should do for every pregnant employee.

@pwblwc I'll have to ring them up x
