Rare antibodies

Hello! I have just had my GTT and as part of this they did what they explained as a routine blood test. Well - this has turned up some rare antibodies that they are bringing me in for further blood tests to see exactly what they are and have a plan of what to do next….

Have made the error of consulting Dr Google and am now in a slight tailspin…

Has anyone else had this? What happened?

Thank you so much in advance for your replies

Hello, congratulations on your pregnancy. I also had some rare antibodies and was rhesus negative as well with sensitisation. I had to be monitored every few weeks with blood tests, have a peripheral blood test which looked for the babies blood cells in my own blood to see if baby had the same antibodies or not.

My baby had the opposite blood group to me and so basically what can happen is that your body sees the baby as a foreign body and attacks it (much as the incorrect organ transplant gets rejected by the body). So they monitor the levels of your antibodies in your blood to basically see if they are preparing to attack.

If the antibodies build up they will take bloods more often mine got up to 3 times a week and then twice a week I had scans of my babies middle cerebral artery to see if he was being impacted. My baby was, so I had him by urgent CS at 33 weeks.

My next baby wasn't affected at all. There are some great facebooks that you can get support from. Just search the name of the antibody taht you have on there.

I should add that DS2 (who was affected) was in NICU for 2 weeks and monitored for 6 months afterwards. He is now a strapping 6ft lad!

Thank you so much for the message and reassurance- I think the next tests are aimed at finding out what the antibodies are - thanks again
