Is this my waters? Quick responses appreciated!

Hi all
I am currently 40+5. Have had a bad stomach the past couple of days which has resulted in lots of going to the loo. Just stood up off the toilet and had a little gush of liquid followed by some trickles down the leg. As I’d just been to the toilet thought it would be odd to be wee. Looks clear more like it would be my waters but doesn’t seem enough?

I then felt like I needed to wee so I decided to do it in the bath so I could compare the colour difference. The wee in the bath is pale yellow as you would expect compared to what’s on the floor which is clear.

is this my waters or is there just not enough for it to be so?

thank you!

@Sammie1990 a little bit more than you but he still had some hind waters that stayed in place until hours after I was induced. It was in my underwear and shorts, I didn't think it was waters but my mum was insistent it did not smell of pee so made me go in. I did eat a McDonald's on the way in as I was convinced it was nothing (I was 37+5 with my first so thought no way!) This was on a Friday afternoon, induced Saturday afternoon and born Sunday evening. He's 5 now and healthy but glad I went in when I did. Worst they'll do is send you home x

Yea I think it’s better to be safe than sorry. I think I’ll have some dinner and then give them a call

My waters leaked slowly rather than gushed. I had a similar sensation to a period when you feel something trickle inside. I went to the hospital as I was unsure what it was and they confirmed.

PickledScrump · 21/01/2024 17:17

I didn’t get contractions with my hind waters and had to be induced. I ended up having a really nasty infection. Please get checked, it’s really not worth leaving it.

stockpilingallthecheese · 21/01/2024 17:24

I would ring triage now regardless OP. When my waters broke it was very obvious and continued to absolutely flood out and soaked through 3 outfits 😆

moosloverlover · 21/01/2024 17:37

With mine, I was convinced I’d just leaked a little bit of wee, especially as it just trickled if I laughed too much/got into a tricky position (I was painting skirting boards that day!). I woke up with wet knickers on the morning, waited until that night to be checked and they tried to induce me immediately as no contractions. No pain, no backache, no nothing! I had to have IV antibiotics all throughout my (three day long!) labour due to the infection risk. Good luck, baby will be here soon 🤞🏽

bogoblin · 21/01/2024 17:53

I would ring the MAC. With my first I felt a tiny pop and a little water come out and they had me come in and tested it to see if it was my waters - it was and then they gave me a 24 hour deadline to go into labour naturally before induction. They also had me keep an eye on my temperature in case of infection. Sweet fa happened in my case and I was induced and had my baby 11 hours later! They broke the rest of my water in the hospital and that was a gush.

Good luck! Seems like baby will be in your arms sooner rather than later :)

Sammie1990 · 21/01/2024 18:58

I’ve called them and she didn’t seem worried at all as there hasn’t been anymore. Said to put a pad on and just keep an eye 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's better to have called so they can log the time, so if labour does start soon they may not let it go on too long / they'll give you antibiotics if needed.

Just coming back to update in case anyone else find themselves in this position. I’ve come in for midwife appt today hoping to have a sweep. They swabbed me and my waters had broken like I thought. Now I am being rushed in for induction as it’s been 48 hours, so essentially poor advice when I called. Please trust your gut ladies and go in for the swab if needed!

@Sammie1990 goodluck! You really do have to advocate for yourself. I had to push so hard when my son's waters broke noone believed me or cared x

blackpanth · 23/01/2024 16:04

Good luck! X

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 25/01/2024 11:07

Ooh that's really exciting, hope its all going smoothly!

ChequeredPastel · 25/01/2024 11:10

How are you doing?

Sammie1990 · 25/01/2024 18:34

Hi all
thanks for asking. So the good news…I’ve just arrived home with my perfect baby ❤️.

The bad news.. had waters broken, very large amount due to having high fluid. This caused the contractions to come too quickly as in literally back to back. Was given meds to slow them but ineffective. Went for epidural as the pain was excruciating. This was a god send. After 10 hours baby still not here. Doctor unhappy with dips in heart rate so forecep delivery which I didn’t find too bad. However following this I then had a serious hemorrhage emergency button pressed, doctor can’t stop bleeding. Taken to emergency theatre where I was asked to give consent to them removing my womb if needed. Was sedated at this point. Woke up after having womb packed but thankfully no further operation needed. All in all very traumatic!

I’ve then been kept in as having my waters broken for over 48 hours caused an infection so antibiotics via IV. Sent home with blood thinning injections, iron tablets, oral antibiotics and a bottle of morphine. All in all very traumatic!

Congratulations op.. Ime all dc love hearing about their dramatic entrances in the future!!

PickledScrump · 25/01/2024 18:47

@Sammie1990 oh that must have been so scary, I’m sorry it turned out that way but I’m glad you’re both home safe. I’m so angry for you that they wouldn’t do the swab with your waters, I know how unpleasant the infections can be, on top of everything else is absolutely awful.

You might not be feeling up to it at the moment, but if you have had a traumatic birth it may help to request a birth debrief to go over everything and find closure. You can also complain to pals about them dismissing your concerns about your waters. Of course you might feel you don’t need to but they’re options not everyone knows about.

I hope you are settling into life with your beautiful baby. Congratulations and well done.

Outliers · 25/01/2024 19:21

Very unfortunate. From my experience once there's a medical intervention, chances of a complication sky rockets.

MamaBearsss · 25/01/2024 19:24

Oh god @Sammie1990 thag sounds horrible.

Fuckitydoodah · 25/01/2024 19:36

Oh my god, you poor thing.

You must feel like you've been hit by a double decker bus.

Accept any help offered and take it.

Congratulations on your new baby!

lioneggs · 25/01/2024 21:30
