40+4 Discharged from consultant care too early

Hi all
I’m currently 40+4 😫 fed up as you can imagine. From 28 weeks I’ve been under consultant led care due to having high fluid. At my 38 weeks scan the fluid had gone down to normal levels (just) and the consultant advised at my 40 week scan I don’t need to see him again and could be seen by a midwife only.

At around 39 weeks I started to feel incredibly uncomfortable again and I know instantly that the fluid was going back up due to how tight my bump had become again. At the 40 week scan they confirmed that fluid had gone back up. It had always been the case that of the fluid continued to rise I would be induced at 40 weeks. Anyway as I wasn’t due in with consultant I saw a midwife who didn’t really know any of the history and had to keep back to check the notes when I was giving her information (not her fault). I really feel like the consultant discharged me too soon as I’d only had 1 scan with normal fluid levels and now it’s back up.

Ive had 2 sweeps, both of which caused more than normal bleeding so I’ve been told not to have any further. Second sweep was 3cm dilated with a favourable cervix and ‘bulging’ membrane but nothing has progressed.

I am due to see midwife at 41 weeks (Tuesday) and book induction for 41+5 if nothing has happened.

Im feeling very confused as this has pretty much gone against the advice of the consultant who I now can’t see. I feel like the fluid is still increasing due to feeling very similar to how I did when it was at its highest.

has anyone been in this situation or have any advice? Should I try and get back in with the consultant or just wait it out until the induction date?

Telephone maternity triage, explain your concerns, tell them you are worried about the baby.

Do you have any concerns about the baby’s movements? They should have you straight in for monitoring on the CTG if you do and you would usually see a doctor in triage too.

Hi
thanks for reply. No I don’t have any concerns about movements. It is really just the fluid, the consultant told me all the concerns of having high fluid and the risk but the midwife I saw after the scan kind of ignored it. Yes I think I will give them a ring.

I would call maternity unit for advice. I wasn't allowed any sweeps when I had too much fluid because of the risk of cord prolapse. They wanted me in hospital from due date for induction so that I was in hospital when my waters went.

Hi
thanks for reply. Can I ask what your fluid was measuring if you can remember? Mine is not only classed as slightly high but I’m worried it will continue to rise

It was a few years ago now, I think I was only a little over the threshold though. But once my waters went there was soooo much fluid!

You haven't got too long to wait so hopefully won't rise too much if it does, it's so uncomfortable isn't it! Has anyone talked you through the position to get in if your waters go at home?

its sooo uncomfy! When it went down I felt so much better I knew at the last scan it had gone up just because of how full and tight I felt. I actually can’t wait for my waters to go for the relief! Yea they’ve told me what to do. I think I’m just getting inpatient as I always thought come now he would be here as I was told I’d be induced at 40 weeks all the way through!
