How and when did you deliver your breech baby?

I’ve had two breech babies. Tried to turn both and failed so two ELCS - both 39+5!

THNG5 · 20/01/2024 08:53

Elective c section. 39+2 weeks

Apparentlystillchilled · 20/01/2024 08:56

37 weeks. Only found out when I was 8cm dilated so too late for a section. Natural delivery surrrounded by an army of HCPs. It was a very quick delivery so DD was ok and her hips settled by 6 weeks.

KohlaParasaurus · 20/01/2024 09:01

Elective caesarean section over 30 years ago. First baby. If I'd known more about my own pelvic dimensions I might have opted for a trial of vaginal breech delivery, but I had a family history of difficult births.

I was also a breech baby 60 years ago, undiagnosed before labour and born by emergency caesarean section.

Hedjwitch · 20/01/2024 09:08

Breech only diagnosed in labour so emergency section

spiderplant56 · 20/01/2024 09:08

Emergency c section as they didn't realise she was breach until I was 10cm dilated. Was not fun.

I was induced at 37 weeks due to spontaneous rupture of membranes.

Good luck op! Had I known she was breach I would've gone for an elective c section and not tried to turn her.

MamaLlama123 · 20/01/2024 09:10

I had successful ECV. i was very keen for vaginal birth. ended up going overdue in the end and postdates induction with emergency caesarean! but i wouldn't change decision - still think it was worth a try

Whataretheodds · 20/01/2024 09:17

I'm booked in for a planned CS at 39+2.
Breech identified at 37+6 having been cephalic at 37+1.

Baby has an unstable lie. Didn't attempt ECV as 1) unstable lie 2) I'm over 40 so would have been encouraged to induce at 40w anyway, and the likelihood of baby turning and getting sufficiently engaged quick enough for a straightforward vaginal delivery.

I have felt really nervous about the CS - not my first choice. But I think I'd be nervous about complications of VB too.

I know there's an option of breech vaginal but at 38+2 the baby is transverse so I'm sticking with the CS.

wannabe123 · 20/01/2024 09:52

I had an ELCS booked for 39 weeks but went into labour at 38 +4 and so had what was classed as an EMCS although it still felt pretty calm.

dollybird · 20/01/2024 10:33

Breach only discovered when the midwife saw a bottom rather than a head! It was very quick. I was induced at 40+10 as overdue.

MrsNandortheRelentless · 20/01/2024 10:38

37 weeks discovered at 8cm dilated.
Foetal distress, pure poo coming out of my vagina.

General anaesthetic and C section.
Horrific, absolutely fucking horrific.

SunRainStorm · 20/01/2024 10:45

I've had three breeched babies, all via planned c-section.

All calm and straightforward births and recovery. I have no lasting issues apart from the scar.

lorn195 · 20/01/2024 10:50

Unexpected Emergency C-section at 39 weeks, although I had already been booked in for an elective C-section as DS was breech.

I had been offered a ECV but I refused as I was happy to have a C-section having had a vaginal birth.

It was all very calm in the operating theatre and it was a quick delivery.

We now have a 6ft 17 year old (It's his birthday today!) but it still feels like it was yesterday.

TedLasto · 20/01/2024 10:54

Planned C section at 39+1. Breech discovered at scan following 31 week check at which I was measuring small. Followed up with weekly scans and a scan on the morning of the section and remained breech throughout.

To add I was offered ECV but refused it (and actually midwife advised me to refuse it but I was going to do so anyway). Sounds brutal.

CamdenQueen · 21/01/2024 08:40

My mum gave birth to me 34 years ago and I was breech. Discovered at birth, vaginal delivery with episiotomy but otherwise all was fine. Overdue by 1 week.

OopsOutnumbered123 · 21/01/2024 08:46

I had my breech son at 37 weeks via c-section when my waters went spontaneously. They knew ahead that he was breech because I was having regular growth scans, so although I had a emergency c-section it was quite calm and more like a planned one.

snowgal · 21/01/2024 08:52

My first was resolutely breech throughout the whole pregnancy. Two ECVs which were unsuccessful, hospital couldn't guarantee to have anyone one on shift who had experience of breech births therefore ECS at 39 weeks. His little feet were up by his ears for the first few days!

PJ04JCW · 21/01/2024 08:52

Successful but unpleasant ECV at 37+2. Baby didn't like it much and they were consenting me for a CS but she settled and was born at home at 40+6, 9lb 3.
She's 8 in a few weeks!

heartofglass23 · 21/01/2024 08:54

This will sound daft but works!

Go to the swimming pool when it's quiet, go to the deep end and do as many somersaults as you can.

This turns a lot of breech babies.

It really is worth it to avoid the alternatives.

Enterthewolves · 21/01/2024 09:01

ECS at 34 weeks, footling breach. It was totally fine - staff were amazing. Baby DD was in SCBU for 2 weeks but it was mostly precautionary. I was allowed to room in.

Farmersweeklyreader · 21/01/2024 09:04

I had an elective c section last year for my breech baby. I was already booked in for a section before they discovered he was breech at 37 weeks.
I was advised to keep a close eye on things and get to the hospital asap if I felt any signs of labour for assessment. I am over 40 though and first pregnancy. It was a worrying few weeks as I live over an hour away from the hospital.
Born at 39+4 as originally intended. Calm experience, no regrets. No complications with baby. I would do the same again.

thesugarbumfairy · 21/01/2024 09:06

39+6. Undiagnosed so too late for c-section. He was in a bad way which i wont go into. But hes a strapping lad of nearly 17 now.

WAC1 · 21/01/2024 12:49

First baby, 2 x failed ECV and ELLSCS at 39+6 due to cord and feee presenting.
Currently 33+ and this one also breech but time to turn. Planning VBAC if head down, ELLSCS if breech

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 21/01/2024 12:52

A couple of days before our planned and booked C section, when my waters broke and he started coming (I knew the feeling as I’d had a straightforward vaginal delay very before)

I was kept overnight and given a calm but technically “emergency” section early the next morning.
