So I was at the pharmacy to collect my prescription. The lady at the counter asked what my exemption is. I said maternity. Then she said , "I didn't want to assume in case you had a big dinner!" I knew she was joking but i sarcastically responded with' "Urgh, Thanks". I was a bit offended, no one has ever said that to me before. I know I'm big, but c'mon! It was a little insensitive of her. AITA?

I bet it was just a joke to brake the icy but I get you OP😭
I’m being super sensitive and offended by everything people say - depends on the day and what hormones are raging at the time lol.
I went for a private scan last day (I’m about 14w with twins with a tiny tiny bump) and the lady on the desk after confirming all details goes ‘’wow you don’t even look pregnant’’ - I know it meant to be compliment but I got so annoyed🤣 we were laughing with my partner the whole way home bc of that🤭

@idontlikealdi thanks wasn't sure. @Sturnidae In Scotland you don't and haven't since 2011 when the fees were abolished so it's been a long time since I had to consider paying for each one at the chemist so it threw me for a moment.

(yes I know we pay them in our taxes here before a helpful Harriet comes along lol)

I do think you’re being a bit sensitive to be bothered enough to write a post, but also she did make an unnecessary and uninvited comment about your body, that leaned towards the negative, which only seems to happen or be ok when you’re pregnant or have just had a baby. She wouldn’t pass comment on someone’s rash would she. So I do get it.

I wouldnt take offence to it. However its a scary world out there now. People cant say something without the other getting offended by it and thats worrying.

Just let it be, laugh it off and get over it thats my advice to you.

We soon won’t be able to say a single thing without people getting offended 🙄 what a shite world we live in!!

At 14 weeks, you probably don't look pregnant though! Why did she think that was unusual, even with twins? Would be more unusual if you had a massive bump tbh

Op, with kindness, I think you overreacted. I don't think she was rude, just making a lighthearted comment.

I've had way worse including being called sir / bruv (I'm quite tall, so must look manly at a glance 😂). Both times I was wearing a black, leather jacket which I got rid of and it hasn't happened since! Lesson learnt.

I've also had several people thinking I was pregnant after I'd had dc2 (c section belly), even when I was standing holding a 2 week old baby! I mean, really, use your head 🙄😂. At least she didn't wrongly assume you were pregnant and waited till you'd confirmed and then she made a jokey comment probably to be friendly.

Love love love the pp that are worried that soon they won’t be able to freely pass comment on a woman’s body without a mildly sarcastic response from the woman back. Heavens forbid. It’s a tough new world out there.
