17 weeks back pain?

Hi ladies just asking for some advice please. I'm currently at work and been having intermittent twinges in the right side of my lower back this morning. It doesn't feel like nerve or muscular pain, it feels almost a bit dull achey/crampy but I've not had cramps in my back before so not sure what's normal and what's not.

No other symptoms - I feel actually quite well apart from this. No urinary symptoms, had my mw appointment last week and my sample was clear.

It's really intermittent, maybe every half an hour or so. It's not bad enough to take painkillers.
I've contacted my midwife no response.

Is this the round ligament pain? Is this normal?

I only realise I had a UTI when I got loin ( lower one sided ) back pain. Worth asking I think.

I had this and it got quite bad - so much so that walking was really painful. My midwife put me in touch with an NHS physiotherapist. I had a group call with her and some other pregnant women.

She said it sounded very much like pelvic girdle pain, and advised:

  • swimming
  • pregnancy yoga class
  • pregnancy Pilates class
  • sitting and exercises on a yoga ball

I've done all of that and the pain has gone. I'm now 31 weeks. I've also got a U shaped pregnancy pillow for bed.

She also said that if walking hurts, walk as little as possible. Basically don't do anything that feels like it's aggravating it.

Swimming is amazing for pregnancy aches and pains - being in water takes all the pressure off your joints. Highly recommend that and the yoga ball.

Also mine started at about 17 weeks and got really bad by about week 24! It was in my lower left back which makes sense because my left side is weaker.

Thank you so much for your responses, I was getting a bit concerned though it is very mild. I'd not heard of pelvic girdle pain sounds like it could be likely. I might try and do some gentle exercises though I am on my feet all day at work as well which probably won't help!
