Irritable uterus - experiences?

I’ve been diagnosed with an ”irritable uterus” that pretty much contracts from anything, just a simple touch on the stomach during a midwife exam makes it hard as a rock for 1-2 days afterwards. I can’t really do anything other than laying still on the couch. I’m looking to hear if anyone else have had an irritated uterus throughout their pregnancy and how it all went? I’m currently 25 weeks pregnant but worrying about pre term labour due to the contractions so I would happily hear any experiences you might have from this!

Hello

Hope you’re getting on okay. I am 27 weeks and looks like I have the same. Mine has ramped up over the last few weeks and is contracting basically anytime I move and it’s so uncomfortable and painful. I’ve spoken to my midwife and it doesn’t seem to be linked with early labour, just a pretty nasty pregnancy symptom. I have a very active baby which definitely seems to be making it worse.

Did you find anything helped? I’ve actually just taken some sick time from work cos I am a nurse and it was just constant at work, makes me feel quite sick! I too am spending most of my time on the couch.

Sorry I can’t offer any words of wisdom but thinking of you and hope you’re coping!

I don’t have direct experience but I was admitted to hospital earlier this week and the nice lady across from me was in with this. She was told that the doctors said it was most probably linked to a UTI even though she didn’t have any other symptoms so maybe it’s worth asking to be tested for that? She was 35 weeks and also concerned about pre term labour but was reassured her cervix was still very much closed. I was released before I found out if she did have a UTI or not but that’s what they were looking for.

I don’t have a UTI but I do have overactive bladder and apparently the two can also be linked. Actually ended up in NHS 24 twice cos I was convinced it was UTI. Honestly what a joy pregnancy is! 🤣🤣

I was diagnosed with an irritable uterus after the monitor picked up on some quite regular contractions when I was 20 something weeks pregnant. I had gone into MAU with cramps a few times for this. The doctors didn't seem concerned. I was going in for twice weekly monitoring anyway and the contractions always showed up on the monitor. I was constantly crampy and uncomfortable.

I went into labour at 38+3, luckily I was already at the hospital. I had opted for an ELCS and that went ahead with no problems 🙂

I’m almost 34 weeks now and I’m still suffering from an irritable uterus unfortunately, I do find resting a lot helps though - especially laying down on my left side . If I move too much I will get more contractions so I try to stay as still as possible. And also making sure I feel good by getting enough sleep, eating well and drinking electrolytes and adding magnesium. Plus making sure my bladder is empty as well as a full bladder irritates it further.
If I’m too stressed or tired, move too much or have a full bladder it gets worse. So I try to relax as much as possible to keep it under control,
it doesn’t always help fully but eases it a bit.
