Blue Cheese Concern

Hi,

Yesterday I went to a friends house, and she had made some food, which was sliced potatoes, with red peppers, carrots, onions, cream, milk all baked in the oven. She had topped in with cheddar cheese, and then for the last 15 mins of cooking she put some small squares of some blue veined cheese on the top.

Now, I said to her, "what cheese is on it" and she said, "Oh, there is some blue cheese, oh damn, why did I put that on?" but she said she only put some small squares on, and she could see where she put them on, so said if she gives me a bit, in between where she put the squares of blue cheese on, that would be ok as no blue cheese on there.

I was EXTREMELY hesitant because I know how much I WORRY about things, I wasn't happy about eating it at all, but it was such a difficult situation because she had made it specially etc...

Anyway, so I had some, but I was so scared, I just picked at the bits of veg it it, and the potato slices, I didn't taste any blue cheese on it, or even any other cheese at all.

But now, JUST as I thought, I am really scared, and worried about Listeria, I have been up all night just worrying about it.

I told my friend and she says "I didn't give you a bit with the blue cheese on the top", but I am worried it may have 'seeped' through... Oh I don't know, I totally have OCD when it comes to things like this, I really am so worried.

But would cooking in a hot oven for 15 mins have killed any listeria if I had eaten some of the blue cheese?????

Thanks for your advice. P.s I am 35 weeks preg.

Blue x

Do not worry for a second longer.
It is FINE.

I promise you.

TheDevilEatsNestle · 19/03/2008 09:54

I agree, especially as it was cooked.

DO NOT WORRY. I actually have eaten uncooked blue cheese many times while pregnant with no adverse effects. They really scare you needlessly about what you can and can't eat IMHO.

Sit down - put your feet up and have a cup of tea!
I ate blue cheese when I was pregnant - hadn't realised the dangers - and I now have a healthy wee girl!
Do not stress - that is probably worse for you and the baby than the blue cheese was

Don't worry, the cooking would have seen off the extremely slim chance of any nasties peeking through.

bluebella-was it you with the sandwich the other day and the blood?

Bluebella · 19/03/2008 15:09

Hello, yes it was me... :-(

I am terrible arn't I!

yes, I agree with the others, cooking it through will have nuked the listeria. listeria is extremely rare anyway - probably far more dangerous to cross the road or even switch a light on!

bluebella sweetheart[worried face]
you have to try and chill out a bit.

your baby is going to be fine. absolutely fine.

you however are going to be stressed to hell with all this worrying over crazy things!

in france women aren't told to avoid blue cheese!
