I’m currently using bio oil on my stomach everyday in the hopes of preventing, or let’s be honest; at the very least reducing, the impact of stretch marks as my bump grows, but I’m sure I heard it’s not actually very good.

What else are you mumma’s using, or used, that you feel worked a treat?

Contrary to the posts above it's not purely a genetic issue, environment plays a role.

Under advice from my mum, I used shea and cocoa butter, and biooil with my first and voila no stretch marks. She also stressed no scratching - this is a main driver for stretch marks.

A lot of my friends scratched and itched like no tomorrow, didn't moisturise their skin, and go figure, they all had stretch marks.

Scratching does not cause stretch marks.

However stretch marks can be itchy, so it makes sense that someone who scratches a lot might have stretch marks, but the cause and effect is the other way round.

I've had some very faint ones on my boobs/hips from puberty but didn't get any in pregnancy if that reassures you (nor did my mum or sisters).

I developed terrible stretch marks on my hips during puberty, so I was really worried I’d be predisposed to getting them during pregnancy.
Some how I got absolutely none. I’m usually terrible for not using body lotion, but I was really strict at using a Mamamio oil and body butter throughout pregnancy.
Could be this prevented the stretch marks or could be I just got lucky.

I also have plenty of stretch marks from puberty. I carried two babies to full term in my thirties. I put nothing whatsoever on my skin. I got zero new stretch marks.

Nothing you put on your skin prevents stretch marks.

Interesting! Thank you everyone for your replies. I feel I may be prone to stretch marks as I got them when I was a teenager during a growth spurt, my hips and breasts mostly. So maybe I’ll just have to resign myself to the fact I’ll get them regardless, gonna keep up the daily skincare routine though (my partner rubs the oil into my bump; it’s a nice way for him to feel involved and bond with the baby before birth too) and if anything I’ll have lovely soft skin 😅

I am very prone to stretchmarks, and have them behind my calves, under my arm pit and on my butt from my teenage years. 😪

However, during pregnancy I didn't get one stretch mark from a very large 10lb baby. 2 weeks overdue. I used BI OIL religiously. twice a day, as soon as I got out of the shower, rubbed in within 3 minutes of getting out of the shower while my pores were still open. Brilliant stuff. Put in on before you dry yourself off lightly with a towel. This way a few drops go a very long way. I can't recommend it highly enough. I would warn you about buying it online through 3 parties. Used trusted sources: Boots, for example. Otherwise you could be buying a fake.

BIO OIL did for me and I was huge and 2 weeks overdue.

I got them as a teenager, but not with kids and I was huge. Slow steady gain, let your skin adjust. Lots of healthy food.

Nothing works. It's genetic

I had stretch marks from gaining weight in my teens so I thought I’d definitely get them in pregnancy but I didn’t. I used Palmers coconut butter maybe once or twice a week, no idea if it made a difference or not to be honest.
