Adjusting due date - confused!

Hi All,

Seeking some guidance here as I’m very anxious about miscarriage, so want to make sure i‘m account for weeks + days correctly.

According to my LMP and tracked ovulation, I should be 10 weeks and 2 days pregnant but both my 7week and 10week scans have added 4 days in total to my gestational period. This puts me at 10 weeks 6 days.

Whilst I know this physically isn’t possible, I feel more comfort in thinking my pregnancy is further along because of a decrease in miscarriage rates.

Really, how should I actually be counting my gestational period? Am I actually really only 10 weeks and 2 days?

thanks so much

Ovulation sometimes happens later, or you ovulate twice.

There's a reason they date from scans. At 12 weeks, your "final" dating will happen, and that date will stick regardless of what happens next. Go with that date.

Congratulations.

I had IVF so know exactly when the embryo went in but on every scan the baby has measured 4-5 days ahead- 4 scans so far and I'm 17 weeks.I can only assume it implanted and grew quickly. I would go on your scan dates but not be alarmed if it changes as early on the foetus is so tiny even half a mm can make a difference.

Thank you! Hadn’t known you could ovulate twice, that’s interesting.
Hopefully it keeps dating ahead and I can feel a little more secure

I would take any scans done before the 12 weeks with a pinch of salt dating wise. At those stages the baby is so small that it’s so easy for them to measure it out either way, both of my early scans had me as being what I thought I was but then when I had my 12 week NHS scan it turned out I was actually around a week ahead and my baby has then stayed on that line of growth throughout, now 27 weeks. Try not to worry too much about their size either way in the early days, I remember at my early scan the sonographer telling me something like incorrectly measuring even by as little as a quarter of a mm could change the dates by up to a week at that stage!
