Hi there,
My first pregnancy was ectopic and i had to have surgery which resulted in a blood transfusion. I am pregnant for the second time (currently 23 weeks) and the blood transfusion introduced antibodies which i can pass onto the baby and can cause fetal anaemia.
I was refered to the fetal medicine unit and it resulted in additional scans and blood tests, every 4 weeks to monitor if the baby was developing anaemia, it will be every 2 weeks after 28 weeks. Thankfully 2 checks were fine and on the third one, everything seems ok, growth etc but there was some fluid around the babys abdomen, only one area. As a result they have refered me to another hopsital that specialises in this for a second opinion following a detailed scan (that is tomorrow and i'm trying to keep hopeful) on how to proceed. I was told originally that if it does mean that the baby has anaemia, that they would conduct intrauterine blood transfusion and possibily deliver early at 37-38 weeks.
I can't seem to see any threads on anyone who has gone through anything similar, r.e. fetal anaemia diagnosed by fluid build up and whether it was resolved with good outcomes or it eventually led to hydrops.
Would love to hear from anyone who has gone through something similar to keep my spirits high!
