BPAS Abortion Help?

Hi everyone,

I didn't think I would be making this post so soon. I am 21 and I found out yesterday that I was pregnant. The test indicated that I was 2-3 weeks, so found out pretty early. Myself and my boyfriend have both decided that it is not the right time to be raising a child due to a number of reasons.

I spoke to BPAS this morning and I have managed to get a phone consultation for Friday at 8am due a cancellation. Could someone please put my mind at ease and explain the procedure as there is a lot of information out there it is quite overwhelming! I just want to move on from this as I have been unable to sleep and I am constantly worrying since I found out. As long as nothing is flagged up in the consultation, would they then send the pills out to me to take at home?

Someone please enlighten me and tell me there is hope at the end of the tunnel!

Hey,
so sorry you’re going through this and hope you’re doing okay♥️

i had this when I was 19 at 6 weeks. Not too sure where you are but in Scotland my experience was an in person appointment, they kinda just asked about circumstances the same questions you’d get at like a sexual health appointment, and they do ask your reasons and make sure you’re not forced into the decision or anything. I felt really safe and comfortable talking to my nurse and didn’t feel judged or anything they accepted what I said. They did a scan at this time to judge dates etc but didn’t show me the screen or anything.
from there they gave me an appointment to get the first lot of pills and then an appointment two days later in the hospital to have the next lot + pessaries/suppositories. I was kept in the hospital until it had passed and they had checked it. Then that was it, mild cramping and bleeding for a few days after but nothing terrible.

i will say though, please make sure you speak to people openly and honestly and don’t hesitate to get help after if you’re struggling. I was 100% sure that’s what I wanted to do and a few weeks later I was a total mess mentally and had to get counselling for a couple of weeks.. it really just snuck up on me.

So please just look after yourself & know you’re doing the right thing for yourself right now x

During the telephone consultation they will ask you your name, dob, medical history, last period, all that type of thing. If all that sounds good to the person on the phone, they will send the pills out in the post. They come with all instructions. I think you take one the night before then there are four you need to insert the day of. You will then start cramping which will gradually get worse as the pregnancy leaves your body. They will send some codine for you to take for the pain.

If for any reason they have any concerns, they will invite you in for a f2f appointment in your nearest clinic.

It’s not a nice experience so take the counselling that they offer. Get a hot water bottle and book a whole couple of days in bed. Make sure you have someone with you too for support.

Good luck x

Thank you,

I’m in England and there’s no mention so far of a scan but I think as I know my period dates ect I may not need one. Thankfully my boyfriend is very supportive and we are just keeping it between us. Just hard seeing everything online of lots of information.

i hope you’re okay and everything went well x

Thank you, hopefully it goes smoothly and it can be done with. Guess I was just worried with all of the different information you see online about it

As long as your dates are accurate then they will be able to send to you at home and advise of what to expect.
I spoke to them many years ago and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and they were really understanding, non judgemental and helpful. My dates were unsure and I had to have a scan which was done without me seeing anything and also without judgement.

try not to worry too much. In my experience they are very helpful and understanding

I’m just finishing off the process. From start to finish sent an enquiry form , got an appointment for a scan and then consultation In the afternoon. Was 6 weeks one day. Had consultation the same afternoon and was asked some medical history and other questions they ask for safeguarding purposes. The pills were then sent out in the post. I took the first pill on the Friday night and the second lot I took by mouth on Sunday morning. I only took 2 codeine and pain was pretty bad I’ve got to be honest I would advice taking the recommended safe amount they tell you that you can. Cramping started first after about 30 mins and then the bleeding after about an hour. Was slow initially and then got heavier and I did feel clots. A couple which were rather large but no bigger than what they say they should be. I was in pain for the first 3 hours I will be honest and it only subsided after about hour 6. I am still bleeding and I do have quite heavy periods so it is quite heavy but not as much as I thought it was going to be. Overall the process is not as bad as you think in your mind it it going to be. I didn’t relax and I wish I did now, I would advice to have someone with you for a hug and reassurance but your body just really does what it needs to do after taking the pills

Glad your experience went well. Mine was okay too, almost 3 weeks now since I last took the pills thankfully it’s over and we’re through the worst of it.
