Hi all

So we are looking to book a little holiday before baby comes. We are looking at Greece late April/early May. I’ll be about six months pregnant.

I’ve not booked anything yet but looking at Rhodes for 7 days, flying with TUI.

Anything I need to know or be prepared for?

I had a long haul holiday booked before we found out we were pregnant and we're flying out and back when I'll be 27/28 weeks.

I've asked my midwife about this and she just said be prepared for the flight- drink lots of water, wear compression socks and move around a lot. Other than that, she was very excited for me to be getting a bit of sun and relaxing before the baby arrives!

Just check with the airline if you need any certificate / fit to fly due to pregnancy. I had a friend who was refused boarding bc she didn’t have one. But as far as I know not all of them require that.

Agree about the stockings and get gold star insurance and be certain if what it does and doesn't cover.

Also be sure to list any previous ailment when applying for it.

Good quality travel insurance for one!

I did a similar trip. I found I burnt more than usual and prone to swollen feet. After sun/ aloe Vera, plenty of rest and plenty of time with your feet up will help.

I went to Cyprus at that time. Didn't think about any particular preparation. I did make the effort to walk up down a bit on the plane keep the blood flowing.

It was great.

Perfect timing.

Remember you'll be more sun-sensitive and hotter generally.

Remember to re-check NHS guidelines for what you can/can't eat. Eg I hadn't really registered that swordfish should be avoided because we don't eat it at home but it was on the menu a few times on holiday.

The bar wasn't well-stocked with non-alcoholic options (maybe check with hotel before you go and take something you like in your suitcase. No alcohol-free deals in duty free).

Take and wear plenty mosquito repellant

Did exactly the same at 30 weeks with TUI. Was asked for the fit to fly certificate on way home so do get that. Otherwise, it was an absolutely brilliant trip which I remember really fondly!

It will be lovely to have a holiday OP, just check airline rules etc. DH & I went to Turkey while I was pregnant with DS1, GP and Midwife were fine about me travelling, my pregnancy was straightforward. It was such a lovely week away, go and have a relaxing break in Greece, many congratulations.

I went to Rhodes at 6 months pregnant in late April / early May 2022. It was such a lovely break. I just took my maternity notes with me just in case, but other than that, was lovely just to chill. Gets a bit chilly at night so take a jacket!

DazedandConcerned · 15/01/2024 15:10

Make sure you have your EHIC/GHIC card.

Rhodes will be fantastic for a nice break. Where are you thinking of staying? I know the island very well and spend far too much time there helping the local cat populations.

Flew back from Greece the day before the last day I could fly with the airline, can't remember how many weeks I was, but it was a heavenly holiday. I will remember floating like a starfish looking at my brown bump and a greek salad obsession forever. Have fun.

@Angharad78 how did you find flying at 30 weeks? I'm nervous about flying from Manchester to the States and being really uncomfortable
