I have tested positive to parvovirus/slapped cheek. Don’t know where I got, but I must have caught it when I was 13 weeks. I will be 15 weeks tomorrow. Hospital wants to monitor me on weekly basis for next 3 months, but not much they can do until around 18 weeks in case baby develops anemia or hydrops.
did anyone go through this already? I am petrified, as had two miscarriages in 2023 :(

So, I had slapped cheek when I was 9 weeks. I had scans every two weeks by fetal medicine up until my 20 week scan and then discharged because there were no problems with the baby. The consultant who did my scans was really reassuring. There's only about a 20-30% chance that the baby will have caught slapped cheek, and of those babies only a small proportion of those become unwell. At the scan they tracked growth and looked for signs of extra fluid or swelling on my baby as well as checking blood flow to the brain. The "danger zone" for problems is 10 weeks from when the mother was infected, after that the chances of any complications drop. Even if your baby does start showing signs of any problems there are treatments available. It's a scary time, but the most likely outcome is that everything will be ok.

Hi everyone. Just wanted to give an update as I posted back in January and not so many people have had parvovirus during early pregnancy. It was a very worrying pregnancy for me, but the baby has arrived few days ago and is absolutely healthy. Will never know if he catched the virus and fought it or if he didn’t. I wish best of luck with everyone’s pregnancies!

I’m so happy pleased all was well. I too had my little boy, all healthy on 27th October. It’s such a stressful time but sending lots of love to anyone who is affected xxx

This thread has calmed me down reading about the successful pregnancies, I got slapped cheek syndrome last week at 9 weeks pregnant I got terrible joint pain, blood tests showed I had no previous immunity! Currently waiting for my midwife to call me to start on monitoring, my anxiety is ture the roof! This pregnancy was my 3rd ivf cycle after years of infertility
