Tw: potential loss. EPU won't advise

Morning all.

My test this morning was basically negative, there's barely a squinter. My first ever squinter of a positive eight days ago was darker than this morning's test. I have zero symptoms. No sore boobs, no nausea, no fatigue. The first three days I had cramps and pelvic aches. Nothing at all since.

I phoned EPU to ask what I should expect in the next few days as I expect to miscarry and they said they can't advise because I have no pain or bleeding. I asked them to give me a rough guide for what I should expect so I can prepare myself and they refused saying I should just take a test in a week's time. There's no bloody line there now! Why won't they just give it to me straight?

I'm in bits. I just want to know what to expect in the coming days so I can try and prepare myself. Can anyone else this has happened to provide just a short timeline from when their tests started failing to the worst happening?

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're experiencing this, I've had three miscarriages myself so I know how heartbreaking it is after seeing a positive test.

As it was fairly soon after having a positive, you'll probably find you might not notice too much of a difference or it will be slightly heavier period. Look after yourself. Xx

You are only a couple of weeks pregnant, so it will only appear to be like a period. I'm sorry this has happened, it's very upsetting but you likely don't need any medical intervention.

Lougle · 12/01/2024 10:03

Sorry this is happening to you. Even if your pregnancy has just failed, the embryo will be the size of a pea, so it's unlikely that you will know that you've passed the embryo. You may just have your next period as normal, or you may experience some heavier bleeding.

PointyMcguire · 12/01/2024 10:06

So sorry you’re going through this. At this early stage it’ll be like a late period, possibly a touch heavier than usual but nothing to overly worry about. I found the emotional side of things far harder than the physical at a similar stage of pregnancy.

YouveGotAFastCar · 12/01/2024 10:21

I'm really sorry.

EPU brutally explained to me when I was bleeding that they prioritize babies that they could help; so before 12 weeks, there's not a lot they can do - and therefore not a lot they will do. I did get a scan at 9 weeks, due to the bleeding, but even then they didn't say much.

At a really early stage, most of the impact is going to be emotional. You might have a heavier period, and it might be a bit out of sync.

Symptoms don't necessarily matter - I never really had any at all. The line fading seems fairly conclusive though, sadly.

I am sorry. It might help to know that this is really common, and always has been, and doesn't indicate any issues - we just know about these far more now because of more sensitive tests. All the best x

I'm so sorry, but sadly there's nothing EPU can do. You'll experience what feels like a period- maybe slightly heavy but nothing unmanageable. You'll need some night-time pads and you might have some cramps. My MCs at this stage wouldn't have been noticed if I hadn't tested.

Please don't suffer alone, do you have real life support?

Wictc · 12/01/2024 10:58

How many weeks are you?

KittyFantastica · 12/01/2024 11:05

Hi all, thank you for the response.

I fully understand EPU can't do anything and that the loss will appear as a period. Sorry, I didn't explain clearly.

What I'm asking is how long it usually takes between the lines disappearing and bleeding to start?

You should get what seems like a relatively normal period around the time you would usually have your next period, or within a week or two after.

Thank you, this is very helpful.

My period is only six days late. Does that mean it will likely be another three weeks of carrying nothing until the next one arrives?

With my chemical pregnancy I started bleeding literally a week after my period was due, whereas with my early miscarriage at 7 weeks I started bleeding before my tests turned negative.

carmexmum · 12/01/2024 12:00

@KittyFantastica no it can happy from any day now. Look after yourself x

Lougle · 12/01/2024 12:54

If your period is only 6 days late, and your pregnancy tests are negative, then you'll start bleeding soon.

ChildOfTheMoon · 12/01/2024 14:58

If your only 6 days ate the embryo is only the size of a seasame seed. You won't even notice passing it. You'll bleed will just be like a period. It may be heavier than usual, longer than usual and you may pass some clots. All perfectly normal. Sorry for your loss op

Thank you all, this is the info I needed. I appreciate it ❤️
