Pregnancy and anti-depressants

I was just wondering, has anyone taken anti-depressants throughout their pregnancy?
If so was you under a consultant?

I'm currently 33 weeks and continued to take my anti-depressants through my pregnancy after a long discussion with my doctor. However when I spoke to him yesterday he asked me if I was under a consultant for my pregnancy - which I aren't. He seemed concerned and has sent an email to my midwife.
I can't stop worrying about it since and just wondered if anyone has been under a consultant for this in pregnancy?
Thanks

No but I have been prescribed anti psychotics.. luckily I haven't had cause to take them and it's prn. But I am not under a consultant. I have midwife lead care and I'm booked to have a homebirth.

From what I was told the thing is many of these drugs haven't been officially tested on pregnant women so they can't absolutely guarantee there's no risk... however generally the risk is thought to be lower whilst taking them if needed than it is to be not taking them. Many women take mental health medication during pregnancy and they have completely healthy children please do not worry yourself.
Which doctor said this to you? Was it the perinatal psychiatrist or just a gp? Do you have a midwife you could text and ask about this as well to get some clarity on what they meant and if its necessary?
No one has ever mentioned needing consultant lead care to me despite what I've been prescribed

@Alloftheskies thank you for your reply, it has put my mind at ease a little. it was just my normal GP who I have regular check ins with for my mental health. I have an appointment with my midwife early next week so will see what she says then

Hi

I'm on antidepressants as treatment for anxiety and I don't have a consultant. I should be able to stay under midwife led care unless I come back as having Gestational diabetes. I was borderline for it when I was pregnant with my daughter but my midwife didn't make any mention of needing to see a consultant because of being on antidepressants.

@anony1111
GPs do not have an extensive knowledge of mental health medication or maternity care. I think you need to talk to the perinatal mental health team or at least your midwife to get accurate information here. I really doubt you'd need consultant lead care just because you are on antidepressants x

i don’t think he understands the protocol tbh and unless you think it’s needed I doubt you will end up under a consultant. If you do end up with an appointment with one they’ll just ask you if everything is ok. If it is they will discharge. Try not to worry.

@Alloftheskies @Bex2024 @Al991

Thank you all for your replies, I feel much better about it now. Hopefully my midwife will clear up all the confusion next week when I see her

I imagine the GP wants to make sure you and baby are monitored properly. I am aware that babies born to women on SSRIs may need a bit of extra monitoring at birth.

Yes, I take anti-depressants and anti-psychotics, but am midwife led. Was offered a consultant appointment but declined and it’s not been an issue. Though also under perinatal mental health team who oversee my meds so it’s not just a GP prescribing.
