Miscarriage vs labour pain

I hope I'm asking in the right place.

I'm nearly 36 weeks and starting to think about labour and in particular the potential pain!

Before this baby I suffered a miscarriage at 8 weeks (baby stopped growing at 6 weeks) and the pain with that is something I will never forget. My uterus was contracting every 3 minutes to expel the blood and I've never known pain like it!

So as a sort of blessing, I sort of feel I know what to expect with contractions/pain but wondering if labour pain will be on the same level? Has anyone gone through both?

Heyy,

I gave birth to my son 5 years ago but also suffered a mmc at 14 weeks last year (baby died at 11 weeks).

I don't want to scare you and everyone different but the pain of the miscarriage was absolutely nothing compared to the pain of labour. The mental pain of the miscarriage of course worst thing ever but the physical contractions etc I would compare to very early labour, before it progresses to the real pain 😅. Dont want to scare you, just feel you need to be prepared!

Also everyone is different and I was induced with my labour, which supposedly makes the contractions more painful and I was in labour for 3 days which most people aren't so I'm sure all of that didn't help. I was 100% natural as all I wanted was gas and air but that made me throw up so I birthed without pain relief 🤦🏼‍♀️. So many ways you can have a better experience than I did haha, Same as I hope I do this year with my daughter!

I hope it's a quick, safe and as comfortable as possible delivery for you x

Same as pp I'm afraid, the pain from a miscarriage doesn't touch labour pains. I'm sorry, I don't want to scare you either but it's better you know, so you can prepare yourself. Good luck x

Having had several miscarriages, as well as two successful pregnancies I agree that the physical pain of giving birth at full term is worse. However, I found that was tempered by the more positive emotions compared to the desperate sadness of the miscarriages. Everyone is different will have a different experience. Before I had dc1, a friend who had recently given birth advised me to try to relax and enjoy the experience because the birth is going to happen, so you might as well! I thought she was spouting rubbish, but having been through it, I know exactly what she meant and for me, she was absolutely correct.
Best wishes.

Thanks all for your honest replies and I'm not scared at all I'd rather know what I'm in for!

I’ve experienced both and agree with the others, but also (as pp suggested) the mental element makes a huge difference to how you experience pain, I think- miscarriage pain is especially horrible as it’s also such a sad thing to experience whereas in Labour you’re in pain but also excited to meet your baby. So although the labour pain is definitely worse, for me the overall experience was much better if that makes any sense.
